My family and I lived in Carriage House for 1 year and it was the longest year of our lives. When you drive through the neighborhood, everything looks peaceful and calm and serene. I even drove through on a Saturday night before we signed the lease. But, that's because everything happens in the back. That's where people park and enter their homes and hang out. Only after we were locked into an airtight lease did we find out how bad the neighborhood was. Not were there only the regular bad stuff you'd hear about, poor management, slow maintenance, loud neighbors, but also unsavory characters hanging about, rumors of drugs and gang activity and violence. The police were there on a regular basis. Towards the end of our stay there was a patrol car stationed by the office after dark. My children still know people in the area and have heard it's only gotten worse. On the plus side, the town house was huge and in pretty good shape. Maintenance answered...eventually, and did a decent job. Definitly a no if you have kids, but some people might be able to handle it.
