Resident 2000 - 2002

7/17/2002

I moved here from out of state in the Fall of 2000. Being that the apartments were new at the time I thought that this would be a good place to live. At first it was. My impression changed a few months down the road...When we went through the check off list of "things wrong" with the place,
we found many more things wrong than you would expect from a brand new place. The downstairs toilet did not work and had to be replaced. There were numerous nails coming up from the rug found by walking barefoot in the house. The plaster looked to be just slapped on in many places. A few months later some even came off the wall not to mention the nails that were coming out
of the wall. The floor tiles are about as cheap as one can buy. They aren´t exactly pasted to the floor very well in all places either. Most all of the light bulbs burned out in the first couple of weeks. Overall, not very well put together. I don´t know where one of the reviewers lived but it couldn´t have been Beachwood....We had some ant problems where the ants were crawling
right through a crack in the bricks outside, through the wall and into the kitchen. Eventually we were able to get this under control....There are many, many kids in the neighborhood so there is some noise during the day, screaming, crying, etc... The kids would play basketball in front of out place off of the garage. Often time the ball would be bouncing off of our cars. They liked
to sit on our cars as well until you caught them at it. Pretty good kids but their parents left them pretty much unsupervised to do as they pleased. Alot of the noise is from the Boom-Boom of the car stereos that drive by or from someone just listening full blast while parked...The parking was decent in front of our place but for the most part poor. Every month there was a line in their news letter asking people to park only one of their cars in front of their apartment. Yeah right! No one did or will because the office will only communicate this from their newsletter that I am sure went right to the trash in most cases. The streets are kind of narrow and there are many blind spots where the garages are. They put the garages on the turns. Brilliant! Recently speed bumps were put in without any warning to the tenants. Funny the things the office staff communicates and what it doesn´t....I never used the workout equipment but anyone who wandered by could have since the combo lock on the door was always unlocked!....The pool was pretty nice but needed to be cleaned more than once a week...The landscaping is about the same as it was 2 years ago. Mud in the wet season, dust in the dry. Maybe they will figure out that grass doesn´t just magically pop up out of the ground without seed and water. Amazing! Of course the landscape in front of the office has been sodded a couple of times....The apartments are near the Neuse river which smells just lovely on a warm Summer night and even in the Winter at times. The raw sewage smell isn´t pleasant. Speakinf of unpleasant smells, they have just one dumpster for the whole park and it is always either full or overflowing. They need at least one more...Dealing with the office and their incompetance is fun. From the day we signed our lease we have had problems. We were originally quoted $735 on the phone for rent and when we got there it was $765. Two months later a pet fee was added. The manager, Cara, said "The guy who you first signed the lease with didn´t know what he was doing and overlooked the extra fee". Believe me, I don´t think any of them know what they are doing! We installed a satellite dish next to our neighbor´s satellite. Next thing we know the office sends us a letter stating that we have to move our dish. I ask them why my neighbor can leave his? Their answer? "We have warned
him and he hasn´t move it yet". He never did but I did because I didn´t need any trouble. I had a Fed Ex pakage stolen from our porch one day and reported it to the office so they might warn others. They feinted concern but there was never anything in their newletter. Eventutally some bikes had been
stolen from people´s porches and they did post that. They also had warning about leaving toys out because the garderners would throw them away(take them home). The last straw was when the assistant manager moved in next door to us. She feinted her concern that her kids might be noisy.
Well the vibrating walls every night weren´t from the kids. It was from the stereo blasting! Pretty sad since we barely heard a peep from our prior neighbors or the neighbor on the other side. She is supposed to be setting an example I would think. So much for thinking. Fortunately our lease was coming up and we put in our notice as well as our reasons for leaving. Of course the noise went on for the rest of the month we had to endure there. They said nothing about it even though we stated all our dislikes when we left. The only reason we stayed as long as we did was because the rent stayed the same while I was out of work. Like one of the other reviews
said, Cara and her staff really could care less what goes on around the apartments. All she is concerned about is collecting the rent. Other than that, with the execption of maintenance, they are not there to help with any of your concern that might take away from there B.S. sessions. If you have concerns about noise or theft, it is your concern and not theirs...At the time we moved
we noticed a few unsavory looking characters had moved in the park. This is probably due to the fact that there are many empty apartments available and they are desperate to fill them with anyone who is breathing. Just an opinion on that one. My recommendation? DON´T DO IT!
