Resident 2013

3/8/2013

An HONEST review instead of some of these obvious plants and bitter comments on negative reviews. I lived in the Arbors Apartments for roughly all of 2012. I, personally, liked it a lot. The location was amazing, and the scenery around the buildings (especially in back, where I lived) was great. I also thought the amenities were awesome and took advantage of the pool almost every day during the summer. A word of advice for the people dealing with a very crowded main pool: use the smaller pool at the back of the complex, near the car wash station. It is never as crowded, and while it is smaller, the pool still is very deep on one end (seven feet I think) and fairly shallow on the other. When I was still there they were in the process of cutting down all the beautiful trees... hopefully there are some still there and they are finally done with all the work. Now about the apartment itself... great size, had everything you would need and all the appliances did their job. But... DRAFTY. Awfully drafty in the winter. You could put your hand on the wall and it would feel like ice. I, along with the others in the building, had to bundle up blankets and cover the windows to help with the draft. It was terrible, and having the heater running all winter long when it does not need to be makes for a rather high gas bill. Also, I see a lot of other people on here complaining about bugs, but I never had any problem in my building. Maintenance sprayed often, and I sprayed monthly during the summer. Other than the occasional spider, there was nothing. I lived on the second floor, so maybe this helped. Aesthetically, it could be a little better. Paint was caked on everything, making the windows hard to open and the light switches faulty. Is it really so hard to take of a light switch cover when you paint? The bathroom had been painting neon pink by the previous tenants, when it was painted over when they left, they didn't remove the tape on the walls. Every now and then the tape would chip off, revealing the bright pink paint. I painted over it before I left to prevent being charged. Neighbors were very nice, apartment was unbelievably affordable, and the utilities were never high. And water is included in rent... awesome! They had a problem with people SPEEDING through the complex like it was a race track, so they started to have cops sit at the problem areas during rush hour when everyone was returning home. This really, really seemed to help. A lot of police officers live in the complex (three in my building) so I never felt unsafe, and often went walking at night. Now, the only real problem I had to deal with was AFTER I moved out. I had to cut my lease short, and had a bill left to pay. No big deal, this is to be expected with all apartments. I called the office to see if I could possibly break it into payments, as there was no way that I could pay it all at once. They NEVER called me back. I called for weeks, left messages, e-mailed, you name it. NOTHING. I eventually gave up, and just waited for the bill to go into collections. Well, they waited for-freaking-ever to submit the bill into collections, despite them never calling back, and despite it saying on my bill that 'After 30 Days, it will be submitted for collection'. To give you some perspective, I moved out last fall, and got the call from collections last week. Luckily, they worked with me and allowed me to pay it off before it was posted to my credit history. So that was great. But it irks me a bit that the collections agency was more willing to work with me than the apartments... whatever. Overall, I would recommend living here. If I ever return to the area, I'd even live here again. But be aware of what is going on in your complex, report problems, etc. And read your lease thoroughly so that when you move out, they don't make it a pain in the butt after you are gone.
