Unorganized and Dishonest, Steer Clear if you can

Okay, here's an apartment shopping nightmare for you: Be very cautious when dealing with these gals, you'll soon realize their word is nowhere close to the money you'll pay into your lease agreement unless you consider defensive and condescending to be traits of good customer service. We toured the place and loved it, The grounds and buildings seemed very well kept. We liked the model and were luckily assured not once, but FOUR times including the manager assuring us that a specific unit was ours. Definitely kind of skeptical, i verified FOUR times that the place was ours and was assured as such. After thinking it over for an hour or so, we filled out our apps and we were on our way to what we thought would be our new home, this is where it gets good: 1) 15 minutes into our walk around "Standing Bear Recreation Area" we received a call from the agent asking what our intended move-in date was, I told her the date (as that's when they said the unit was available) and she quickly ended the call. 2) 30 minutes after the aforementioned phone call, we received another phone call advising us that there was a mixup and not one, but TWO spreadsheets hadn't been updated so unfortunately the unit we had been PROMISED was not available and we'd have to settle for another building. We told them we'd think it over and we'd call them back. NOTE: To compensate for their screw-up, we were told that for our trouble, the carpeting in the unit would be replaced. 3) We decided to call them back to advise we were still interested but we wanted the promise of brand new carpeting put in writing so we would have something concrete to ensure the manager's promise would be upheld. After i asked to have it put in writing, she told me she couldn't promise the carpet would be replaced until after the tenant vacated and the unit was properly assessed. Talk about wishy-washy... --Out of curiosity, i then asked when the apartment had been leased and The agent snapped at me and said, "I'm not going to fight with you over who got here first" and rudely asked again if i wanted the apartment. I told her of how uneasy we felt due to the lack of accuracy regarding a unit that was promised to us 4 times and she SNAPPED back, "Well you can sign your lease with me if you're uncomfortable with the other gal". 4) Obviously after all this, we decided not to rent here but here's where it gets REALLY good, for those of you concerned about identity theft, LISTEN UP 5)**RED FLAG** While we were in the office during the tour I glanced over and saw a photocopy of a check just laying on the desk in what looked like an "inbox" and the information was clear as day so this threw up a HUGE red flag in addition to the first **RED FLAG** because the leasing agent voluntarily pulled a file and was flipping through a tenant's file to tell us what kind of pet they had!!!! Um, Yeah talk about CONCERN! 6) Due to their lack of common business sense and lack of information protection, we later saw it fit to get our applications out of their possession. When we went to pick them up, the leasing agent opened the door just wide enough to fit the paper through the door and barely said 5 words. 7) **RED FLAG** Due to a more recent tour of another property, We had to go to the leasing office of another complex to get our deposit check and the gal GAVE US THE WRONG CHECK!!!! IT HAD SOMEBODY ELSE'S NAME ON IT! (we had previously put a deposit down on a sister property of the same company) When we advised them of this, the gal shrugged her shoulders and told us we would have to come back out there when the other agent was available to find it. Completely insistent, we luckily got our check back and put an end to what probably would've been a very bad business relationship. I'll say again, the grounds were immaculate and the apartments seemed really nice. Unfortunately not worth the headaches we experienced in the first day.
