Acceptable, but barely.
There are not a lot of pros about this apartment complex, but I'll start there. The two bedroom apartments are large and there are a lot of closets and storage space. The office manager is very friendly as are most of the matinence workers. If there is a problem (and there are a lot) someone is generally sent to fix it within a couple of days, often the same day. They clean the halls, laundry room, outside, etc. at least once a week, so they try to keep it looking nice. They allow pets with a small pet rent, which is extra points from me because it's so hard to find pet-friendly rentals in this area these days. The outside "courtyard" is really nice with grills and a pool and it's kept in good shape. One of the major problems here is the same as you'll find at nearly any apartment complex you go to... it's the other tenants. A lot of them throw their trash in the hallways and outside. They just throw the mail they don't want on the floor of the enterance instead of in the trash. The majority of them are loud with music, having screaming matches in their apartments, outside, and in the halls, and the people above me seem to have something to hammer every day at 2 am. Kids are always running wild and unsupervised through the halls and outside. Sometimes you can smell the marijuana in the hallways. People here like to take two parking spaces rather than park between the lines, and people are always parked in the emergency zones, never getting towed. If management would step up and enforce the rules better, it would be a much nicer place to live. The apartments themselves have a lot of problems too. While matinence is friendly and usually sent quickly, they do not seem to really know what they're doing, or care, and have a tendency to make the problems worse, or break something else in the process of "fixing" what you called them about. It seems everybody shares one water heater, so when taking a shower it will go from freezing cold to scalding hot in a moment with no warning. Very rarely can you find a comfortable temperature, so showers are anything but soothing and relaxing. There are roaches, as there are in most apartments. They do seem to try to keep them down but again, that falls a lot on the other tenants. We see one small one every couple weeks so it's not like they're all over the place scurrying around the kitchen when you turn the light on... but one is one too many for me. In the winter the heater is on all the time regardless of what you set your thermastat on. We never put it above the lowest setting of 50, but it has never dropped below 75 degrees and usually it is over 80. We have had our windows open all winter, and being somebody who loves the cold this is really an irritation. If we do not open our windows it will get up to 90 in the apartment. In the summer the AC has to be on all the time, and it is in the far corner of the livingroom, leaving the bedrooms on the other end of the apartment unbarable. Prepare to camp out in the livingroom the hottest months, as even a series of fans set up down the hallway and in the doorways did not help much. Bottom line, these apartments are for low-income people and they are run as such. If you can afford a better place you should not move in here, but if you can not these apartments are acceptable.3/10/2014
