I'll preface this by saying yes, yes, YES I would recommend Millbrook! Consider the cons in this list as slight nuisances, but nothing that would make me move. This is my first apartment; before this I dormed and lived with my parents in a home. I couldn't have asked for better, and the price range of this complex targets hard workers - most who live here work hard to afford it, and they are definitely working and not home all day. - Though it can be hard to reach people in the leasing office, they do care and it's apparent that everyone who works here cares about the community. - I believe the only reason the price is kept down is because these buildings are a bit older (from the '70s?). I'm so glad to have a clean, safe place to life at a price I can afford. Pros and cons: PROS: - It is CLEAN! Yes, occasionally someone will leave a banana peel or beer bottle in the parking lot (damnit tenants, don't you respect where you live?!) but I have NEVER worried about bugs. This is my biggest fear with apartments and reading reviews on this site. At most, I get the occasional earwig (those garden bugs that look like they have little pinchers) - but I live near the pool and those things love water. To put it in perspective, in the summer I'll see maybe one or two a month in the bathroom. Very minimal. When I lived in a house in the woods, forget it - we'd get those jumping crickets and mice, this place is heaven in comparison! - I'm a late 20s, single female and I feel safe. I do have one neighbor that hit on me and made things uncomfortable for about a month and every time you have the cable guy over they'll probably hit on you too, but overall, my job often requires me to come home around 10 at night and I'm fine. At 3 in the morning I tend to rush into my apartment, but I feel safe. Bring a guy over every so often so you don't look like you're always alone. - NATURAL LIGHT! I could easily go without turning on a light bulb all day, even on cloudy days. The huge french doors and beautiful windows in every room illuminate the gorgeous hardwood floors and provide so much light. It's wonderful. - Ample closets. I have so much space, even after 2 years here I haven't managed to fill it all up yet. I live alone. - Spacious. The apartment is huge. - All new appliances. I moved in with a new oven, new dishwasher and new fridge. They also refinished the hardwood floors. - The pool is GORGEOUS. Crystal clear blue water like the Caribbean. I have gotten sick twice after going to the pool though (summer cold) - not sure if it's from other sick people or if perhaps the chlorine needs to be dialed up. - Convenient to everything. I never have to drive more than 15 minutes for groceries, entertainment, or work. You can also have your groceries delivered by Peapod. - Edison library bookmobile. I haven't used it much, but it's convenient that it comes to the complex. - Affordable. Especially for what you get. - Service requests handled within a day. One time I left my hair straightener on when I went to work and they were able to come into my apartment and turn it off. Saved me freaking out about a fire hazard and having to come back home! - The only utility you pay for is electric. I love AC in the summer and the AC units here can definitely keep your whole apartment cool during the worst heat wave. My bill ranges from $20 - just under $100 throughout the year. - Ample parking. CONS: - Walls are thin! Your quality of life will depend on your neighbors. I'm good at zoning it out, but when I have company over they notice. - Galley kitchen in the 1BR model without a den. It's enough to get the job done, but even though I hardly cook I would appreciate a larger kitchen. There's limited counter space. - Laminate kitchen floor is hard to keep clean. I've been trying for a year to get one particular scuff mark out of it. - If you live by the pool (this is actually a major plus for me and a reason I moved here) you'll hear noise from the Turnpike. I actually like it - I love falling asleep at night to the sound of other people still traveling places while I'm comfy in bed - but to some this may be a con. - Rent is still high. It's low compared to the area and what you get for it is amazing, but it does go up $30 every time you renew your lease. This is more of a gripe with NJ than with this complex. - Once you've leased for a year, you can switch to a month-to-month lease for a $600 fee as long as you're in good standing. - There are skunks/groundhogs on the property. - Neighbors can be noisy. I've approached them myself and asked them to turn down music if it's after 10PM (to be in compliance with community standards) and have never had a problem that way. - They often do construction and that can be a serious nuisance, but usually they do it during working hours. There is a lot more I could say, but overall, YES I recommend living here.
