The REAL deal about University Park Apartments

University is best described as, "You get EXACTLY what you pay for". What most of the other reviews talk about are pretty much dead on accurate. The only reason I decided to write my own review of this place is because I saw that one hadn't been written about it in a little while. Most people love their first apartment no matter what might be wrong with it just because it's their first real piece of freedom and adulthood! Sadly, this was not the case with me. I was a tenant at University from 2003-2007. My first impression of the complex was that it was just fine for the amount of money I was willing to spend. During my stay at University Park Apts i've lived in 2 different 1st floor 2bdrm apts and a 1bdrm upstairs apt. I started off in a two bedroom on the first floor. The only real problems I had with that particular unit was the fact that I lived w/ my roommate and his girlfriend. Plenty of problems there, but none relevant for this website. The real problems began when I moved down the street into my own (very first) 1bedroom 2nd floor apt. I must say that whoever Ms. Drinkwater a.k.a. Cruela DeVille (the evil owner of the complex whom her own staff doesn't even like her along w/ any tenant whose ever met her!). Anyway, when I first moved into the apt I decided to do something crazy like listen (not blast) some music from my small and very old alarm clock radio as I vaccumed and steam cleaned my carpet. I had just moved in and hadn't bought anything for the apt at the time. 20mins after cleaning w/ my "stereo" going, I get a knock at my door from Cruela herself warning me that if I didn't turn down my stereo that she would evict me for noise violation. She then puffed smoke over my head from her Virginia Slim and walked back to her Cadillac "DeVille" (and I'm not lying about her car). Anyone who know her knows. I rush back upstairs nervous about the eviction threat to turn down my GE clock radio that my grandmother gave me. It must of been secretly built by BOSE or something! Parking is mission impossible there. One parking spot for each apartment whether your in a 1 or 2 bdrm with 1 or more vehicles. The thing that used to kill me about the parking over there is that people would leave abandoned cars there to take up spots, but if you left your vehicle parked for too long in the same spot, you got a letter in the mail warning you of being towed. People would get into arguements with each other and to highten the seriousness of the desputes, they would call the tow truck, which is almost always on standby, to be towed away....FROM THEIR OWN PARKING SPACES!!! Yet University has a list of each apartment and the vehicle that belongs to each parking space. They of course do nothing to help prevent this from happening in the future. I was towed at my own expense twice from an arguement in the laundry room over who pulled some lady's clothes out of the dryer before they were dry. I damn sure didn't do it, but when I asked her when did she put them in the dryer to begin with she told me "Yesterday" ARE YOU F*&!%#$ SERIOUS LADY!? She said that no matter how long she left them in there, they belonged to her and nobody had the right to touch her stuff! I didn't move it, but I would have anyway. I started a family and requested to two bedroom and got one within 2 months of my 1st son being born which was cool; but why after a week of moving in did the heat give out? I had the thermostat replaced twice and the heater itself replaced. My bedroom felt like a steam room all day and night even with the thermostat turned off. The rest of the apt, including the now most important room in the unit felt like the inside of an igloo even after having the thermostat replaced twice and having it up at its highest setting. My electric bill averaged $500 each month throughout the winter months. After that, I had to go! The bottom line..... Like I said before, you get exactly what you pay for. It's not bad for the money, which isn't much, so that should tell you something. The upstairs units are better the downstairs, but still suck. Don't get a downstairs unit if your really considering moving in here. Almost every single 1st floor has been or had been an attempt to break in. Also, almost forgot....MOLD EVERYWHERE!!!
