Resident 2009

12/8/2009

Construction of the new Building 33 is well underway; located at the corner of High Street and Long Ferry Road. They have managed to build this mult-unit building RIGHT AT THE TRAIN TRACKS!! Depending on which side of the building, your front door will be within 10ft of ACTIVE train tracks. These are not commuter rails, however, there is a refinery a stone's throw away where during the evening and late night hours, the loud CSX engines come in to pull/put TANKER CARS in/out of the refinery yard. Although the new intersection has ample railroad alert lighting and long lit gates with alert bells that come down as the trains approach, for whatever reason the engineers STILL BLOW THEIR HORNS MULTIPLE TIMES! I feel sorry for anyone who moves into the High Street side of that building as well as the side that runs along the back side directly facing the train tracks. Also, there's no street parking permitting along this area of High Street or Long Ferry Road. This is a larger problem that current residents at that end of High Street and Long Ferry Road have to deal with as tenants who were ultimately affected by the new no street parking rules, were not told in advance that once High Street reopened, they would no longer be able to park in front of the existing buildings at the corners of High Street and Long Ferry Road. Your car WILL GET TOWED!!! The parking authority has nicely posted a sign on the grounds of H-Town right on the corner, however, it would be nice to see the local police enforce the NO LEFT TURN as you come over the train tracks into Harbortown. For as long as that sign has been posted, people have been ignoring it AS WELL AS THE POLICE. But getting back to the main topic, I don't care what kind of rental deal you may be able to get for moving into Building 33, the first time you experience the train coming through in the late night hours either blowing the horn and/or the constant banging associated with the coupling and uncoupling of cars, you will want to kick yourself. I don't know if apartments in the buiding that are on the opposite side of the building will be much better considering once the train noises begin, the garage area will serve as a canyon to disperse and AMPLIFY the noise.................the "retaining" wall that has been built to separate the building/property from the train tracks is not a high wall nor is it a noise barrier type of wall, so................ Overall, it was really not a remotely "good" place to construct a new apt building simply because of the issues with this train; nothing can/will be done about the train. The intersection itself is relatively busy and has its "high traffic" timeframes. The intersection, in general, could use much better lighting and has been the site of several car accidents since people do fly through that area. If you do consider moving there once this building opens and care to visit the property to see for yourself, the weekend IS NOT when you'll get a "true experience"; it is during the weekday evening rush and late into the weekday evening hours that the tanker trains start to move. Just consider yourself warned!! You WILL NOT be able to back out of your lease because of the (constant) train noise because you are knowingly moving into a building where there are visibly active train tracks.
