Resident 2005 - 2011

4/16/2011

The management company has really stopped caring for the residents in this apartment complex. The on property office is only for sales people who don't care for the current residents. Residents must go to an apartment complex across the street in order to talk to a person about their current lease, pay rent, or place maintenance requests. They are understaffed in the other apartment complex office from what I've seen as all phones were ringing non-stop while they were trying to help people at the same time. The newest staff I dealt with seemed nice and tried their best to be helpful under their conditions given to them by management. Most other times, I dealt with people who lacked professionalism and understanding of the office and apartment. There's not even a secure night drop box for mail on property. The ones on the mailboxes themselves have warnings not to use them. There is a dedicated maintenance staff on property and they do try to keep up with large scale repairs. Though some repairs seem to be revisited a lot like they were temporary patch jobs, even the ones done by outside contractors. A damaged underground pipe was replaced with a valve above ground that the kids would mess with all the time. I even went a week without heat between Christmas and New Years one year and they actually questioned if they could afford to fix it. There is a NV law that vital repairs should be done in three days but that doesn't seem to apply to them. I try to do my own normal repairs because I've given up on trying to change my work schedule around them, especially when they mostly waste my time with fixing symptoms instead of causes. A leak from upstairs came through my ceiling. They patched the ceiling without fixing the leak so it all came apart the very next day. We did have a different management company for a short time before going back to the current one. They tried to keep us informed of crime in the complex like armed robbery and car thefts. My car was broken into along with a neighbors' car but the current management didn't seem too concerned when I gave them the police report. We even had a few nights of gunfire and one night where a bomb squad set off an explosive in one apartment. No notifications after those events. There was also a lack of communication among the staff. I had a plumbing issue where I couldn't turn off the water. The office staff didn't consider this to be an emergency so water was left running for over 6 hours and I had to call again and remind them to send someone right before the office closed. Also any time they update my lease, I get notified two months later that I'm not paying my old rates. They informed me that WST was going to be billed by an outside company but then they still expected me to pay them their old standard fee on top of the bill. I even informed them when my pet had passed away and then two months later, demanded me to pay my pet fees or show proof that she died. Highly insensitive. The quality of neighbors have declined too. There is a high turnover rate in the neighbors in my area. Even a few staff members acted surprised that I've stuck around this long. Lots of kids also run around unchecked. There are playgrounds, but the kids are more interested in playing around the cars, scratching them, denting them. Parents are either not at home or don't care. Be careful of cable theft. I was having issues with my cable one time and the repair man found so many splits in the box that shouldn't have been there. I hear people going into the boxes after midnight. There are community guidelines given to residents, but some residents seem to take them as a to-do list. Loud parties from midnight to 4am. Bags of garbage sit by front doors for over a week. Kids (at least I assume it's the kids) taking out the garbage just throw them behind bushes. People use personal BBQs on the back porch no matter how many times we're told that's a fire hazard. Part of me doesn't blame them because I wouldn't want to use the public grills either. People don't pick up after their pets. There are supplied dog cans scattered about, but people try to shove their household garbage in the little cans because they can't be bothered to make it to the multiple dumpsters through out the property. Plus side about garbage, they did recently give us a recycling bin. Now if we can just get residents with the brain cells needed to understand that the blue bin is only for recycling. There is a grounds guy and he's constantly working every day. I don't envy the things he has to do and I appreciate his hard work here. The place is advertised as a gated community but the gates are never closed. They put in a new system that finally hooked the call box to cell phones and gave us all swipe cards, but we would always have a back up of cars waiting for someone to swipe them in. Whether they were people who didn't live here or residents who have a hard time understanding how to open the gate themselves, I don't know. I had nights where my phone was buzzed multiple times by strangers at the gate looking for anyone to buzz them in. After weeks of them standing by the gates to swipe people in, the staff eventually gave up and just left the gates open. This goes up there to the fact they won't put keyed locks on the front door knobs because people would lock themselves out too often. They've given up on the pools and spas. Spas have been made into planters and the pools might as well follow suit. They were closed a lot even in the middle of summer. I've given up ever going to them because I tired of the hit or miss of finding it open. They mention that it was for water conservation. But they have dribble sprinklers watering the rocks in half the complex. There were plants near those sprinklers at one point but the rocks destroyed them not a week after they were planted. The rest of the landscaping is trimmed on a regular schedule and kept from being unruly. Though there is a bug problem. I have been pretty successful in keeping my apartment bug free but you have to watch it each time you open a door or window since there are many crawling over the grounds. I've only see the grounds sprayed once or twice over the years but I'm not really sure how often they really do it. I notice that their website still mentions built in microwaves. They stopped doing that over a year ago. When mine broke, they didn't even bother to remove it to dispose of it even though it was their microwave. The fitness center is cute but has been riddled with resident abuse over time. Kids would even go in there to use the treadmills as slides. They still advertise the steam room but that was locked down years ago. The clubhouse is also cute. It's a nice size for these apartments and a pleasing area to have events.
