Resident 2007

10/29/2007

Chili Heights is good for college students, but if you are a working professional it isn't that great and you can do better. I have lived here for about 2 years off and on while attending RIT in two different 2 bedroom apartments. If I were to get a job in the area after school I would move out. Nice things: 1. It's in a nice, quiet area. 2. Apartment staff is very nice and helpful. 3. No welfare cases here, so most of your neighbors aren't a problem. 4. The grounds are pretty and kept in good shape. 5. You feel very safe here. 6. Awesome maintenance people, especially the guy with the big red beard. 7. Good value. Bad things: 1. Electric heat. This costs a fortune to run in the winter. Do you like spending $200 per month in electricity, even when you are being careful with how you use the heat? Also, it's not that effective, and there are really two settings: freezing or roasting. 2. No washer and dryer in most apartments, and my apartment is so far from the laundry facility that I have to drive there. 3. Air conditioner is a crappy window unit that only works in the living room and costs a fortune to run. This summer (2007) was very hot, and I ended up going to campus just for the air conditioning because I couldn't possibly stay in the apartment. 4. People park where they aren't supposed to park and you could end up parking a long way from your apartment. 5. Water heating tank is in your apartment, so you pay for it, and it makes the closet in one of the two bedrooms practically unusable. I had to pay a fortune on my first electric bill because whoever lived there before had the tank set to the highest heat setting. 6. Unlevel, sagging floors. Good luck putting a bookshelf against the wall. When I moved in, you couldn't even lock two of the doors because the lock in the door didnt line up with the lock in the frame thanks to the floor shifting. 7. The long, rectangular shape of the living room in the two bedroom apartment makes it impossible to arrange the TV and couches/chairs into an acceptable form. 8. Electric stove, but this is pretty common in any apartment complex. 9. Ancient, crappy dishwasher that fails to wash many dishes. 10. Toilet in the smaller bathroom doesn't flush unless you hold the handle down for a good minute.
