Resident 2006 - 2015

1/20/2015

Under the previous ownership, things were fine. But than a terribly greedy mega million corporation bought it in around 2009. Under this greedy corporation, the rents are increased dramatically each year by 5 and even 6 percent a month, even when inflation is less than 2 percent. Expect rent increases of 40 or more dollars a month on each lease renewal. Expect to pay around 800 dollars a month for a smallish one bedroom apartment. The apartments are old, REALLY old, like built way back in the 70's. You pay ALL utilities so expect to pay a lot for heating since the apartments seem to be poorly insulated. There are cracks in the walls where cold air comes streaming through. Expect to pay for high hot water bills as the water heaters are electric instead of gas. The kitchens and bathrooms are all old. The kitchen flooring is so old that the linoleum has worn thin producing black marks all over it. My carpeting has to be at least 15 or more years old and it shows. Some of the cupboard doors don't latch and just hang open, others close and are difficult to open back up. And the floors creak and moan as you walk on them. Not a lot of closet space either. Don't expect walk in closets. If you stood in one, your nose would be up against the wall and the rest of you would be out of the closet. Parking is fine.....IF you get to your place before 7 or 8 PM. Then expect to park in front of someone else's apartment where a nasty note was on my windshield telling me not to park in front of their building anymore. I've lived here for years, but with the HUGE rent increases every year, I have decided to move before this place puts me in the poor house. I've been looking around, and have found that much newer and nicer apartment can be had and I can save a few hundred dollars a month, especially since most apartments include heat and hot water. Finally, the front doors to the apartment buildings are not locked, so anyone can walk into your building and on several occasions I've had strangers knocking on my door either selling something or "looking" for someone. I talk to them through the door and tell them to go away. Oh, and expect at least two entries a year by the maintenance staff, sometimes more than two times a year. The furnace is located in each apartment and they come in the spring and in the fall to change filters and to just "look" things over. The complex is not on a bus line. So if you need to take a bus, you'll have to walk several miles to the nearest bus stop.
