Resident 2006 - 2007

5/5/2007

I should have known this place was too good to be true. The space is amazing for the price, but so far the service hasn't seemed all that helpful. We've had a leak in our basement causing mold to grow throughout the year and maintenance has checked it out more than once. They only tell us it's coming from next door and they have to get permission to get into the other apt. to fix it. Only half the windows have screens, those that do have holes in the screens. Blinds are as cheap as they get - several have broken at the fixture point and needed replacing (this was just from trying to open them!). A couple windows in the bedroom only open half-way (crookedly). The lots are poorly lit at night and the neighborhood is often full of shady persons. If anyone at all has a guest park in the lot it forces residents to park in the street (which has people speeding and peeling out on at all hours of the night and day).

One night after coming home from dinner out we heard our car alarm going off. We were home less than 5 minutes and someone was breaking into the car to steal the stereo. I had to chase them off the property. Worthington Meadows refused to acknowledge that this was an unsafe environment and would not offer to help us with foregoing an early lease termination or allow for an alarm to be installed in the apt. The police refused to do anything despite having the license plate number I wrote down from chasing off the theives' getaway car because I had prevented them from actually stealing the stereo.

Solicitors have bothered us on numerous occasions; one group posed as the gas company trying to get all of our billing/home info. This later proved to be a scam as Worthington Meadows knew nothing about this nor did the gas company. Who knows how many poor saps got conned that day.

The Insight cable/internet is expensive compared to most and not as reliable.

Noise from apt to apt inside is not bad at all, but if the windows are open I regularly hear people screaming at each other in several adjacent lots and have heard at least one fight take place in which someone was hitting a car with a baseball bat. Windows open or closed the trains are so frequent and nearby it is a nightmare. Thank god I'm a heavy sleeper.

We are moving out asap when the lease runs out this Aug. We no longer feel safe here and it's apparent our leaks and broken/missing fixtures will still be waiting to get taken care of long after we're gone.
