Resident 2004 - 2010

10/20/2010

I hate to be so negative with these reviews, but I have never before witnessed someone abuse their authority with such willing bravado. The Campbell Court Apartments building owner/manager, Tim Gray, was extremely unprofessional to me after I gave notice that I was moving out. I had been what I would consider a model long-term tenant who resided there for nearly 6 years. Once I gave my 30 day notice, he became extremely petty and demanding. It really started when his staff posted a 24 hour notice to enter my apartment to measure the carpet. I replied with a polite letter requesting to re-schedule the appointment for logistical reasons (sleep) to which they abruptly replied with a basic legal form letter reporting that his staff had the right to enter whether I liked it or not. They were scheduled, they were coming. Then came the phone calls and the meetings. This is where I was really thrown by his thug-like demeanor. What started as a tenant asking for a break turned into him battering me with broad, misguided, overgeneralized allegations that where completely out of line. I thought perhaps he had me mixed up with someone else. Then I concluded that maybe this was something he did to intimidate people he no longer had any leverage over. And he obviously had no reason to care about me anymore since I was choosing to move out. I really never talked to him much before this and suddenly he was calling me all kinds of names as if we had this long abusive history. I couldn't believe a man of his stature could be so unprofessional. Later after I moved out, he called me one more time. He left a long message and continued his rants - this time threatening to not give me back any of my $450 refundable deposit because I didn't clean my unit. Although I thoroughly cleaned my unit, he proceeded to contrive enough cleaning charges to avoid giving me back even a cent. His checkout list requested tenants to clean all surfaces as well as vacuum. I did but was charged $199.05 for "cleaning." A charge of $81.67 was accessed for a new carpet in spite of the fact that this all began when they wanted to enter my unit to measure in order to replace it (as they systematically do between long term tenants.) Then there was the fact that the checkout procedure expressly requested residents to NOT fix any of the holes in the walls left from picture hangers and wall mounted shelves. The final accounting report listed a $122.50 charge for "damage to the walls." Other charges were also assessed amounting to a collective $496.91 ($46.91 more than my refundable deposit). I wonder if my refundable deposit was a higher amount, what other fictional charges Tim would have come up with in order to avoid returning any of it to me. I have been a successful long-term renter for more than 20 years. Tim takes the prize for the most unprofessional landlord I have ever come into contact with. I would not trust such a person and I am stunned that I didn't see this all coming. Extremely unprofessional. You've been warned - don't make the same mistake I did.
