Resident 2012 - 2013

4/8/2013

I have lived here for little over 1 year, and have not had a good nights sleep during that time. The floorboards are old and weak, the windows are single-panned, and the walls are paper thin. I hear every step my upstairs neighbors make, along with their TV, and any argument or party they have. Every time people run up or down the stairs, the walls reverberate and echo right into my bedroom (not fun when I have to wake up at 5am, and people are running up and down the stairs at 2am!). I have lived in very old apartments before, and my electric bill has never been this high! (went from paying 80 in the winter at other places, to paying over 200 this past winter here! prepare for that in your rent estimation). The insulation is a joke. The walls are not even level, and any remodel that has been done has been done with very poor craftsmanship. There are holes in the floor, and large gaps between the door frame and my front door, allowing bugs and cold drafts to come in. I've never had a bug problem, but I have witnessed some pretty scary 6 legged creatures crawling through my apartment, presumably from the gaps between the walls and floor space, and the front door gap. The cabinets do not close all the way, even after having maintenance take and look and "fix" them. Also, there are no assigned parking spaces, so if I come home past 6 pm, I am often forced to park quite a far distance from my unit, and even occasionally on the street. This wouldn't be a problem, except that I've found that a lot of the prime spots are being taken by guests that don't live here, but are either staying late or staying the night. This is not OK with me. Guests should have their own spots, further down, so that people actually paying rent to live here get an opportunity to park near where they live. That said, the management has been friendly, and the location is OK, if you prefer to bus. The drive up Slavin Rd. is less than optimal, the speed bumps are poorly placed and don't stop people from driving fast up the road. I've almost had someone crash into me on several occasions because they cut the corners and drive over their lane on the curvy road. All in all, I will not be renewing my lease, and do not feel that the quality of this apartment complex is worth the rent plus awful electric bills caused by the poor quality of the insulation and windows.
