They call the complex "Little Korea" due to the number of koreans that live there. Not that I have anything bad to say about any race, but the poorest of Anchorages asians call this place home. Their inability to speak proper english, prevents them from complaining to proper authorities on matters that trouble the complex (such as asbestos and lead surfacing materials, mice and shrews that occupy the walls year round, cockroaches, old worn out plumbing and bath fixtures that date back 50 years, the loss of heat for many days at a time, the lack of proper fire escapement routes and minimum fire alarm system, there are no fire sprinklers, to name only a few) So why do people live there' The rents are cheap, but, you get low class with low rents. The majority of all the tenants are on government paid welfare, Which assures payment to the slum lord owners. The poor that have lived there for many years, only do so because of small patches of ground are allowed to be farmed (and I truly mean farmed)to provide the added food supplies they need to put up a batch of 'kimchee', or sell to small local markets. Back to the structures themselves, the windows in some of the apartments are only single pane metal framed windows that the military installed 50 years ago. (The complex was originally military quarters for single officers and NCO's. The Government saved the cost of properly abating the asbestos materials and demolishing the buildings by allowing the sale of the outdated and worn-out complex)Anyways, the windows due to their design freeze shut to prevent usage, others lack any true seals to prevent the cold wind from blowing into the apartment making it impossible to heat the apartment above 50 degrees during the winter months, unless you suppliment the heat by turning on your stove and or buying electric heaters (electricity is paid by the tenants), which creates added fire hazards. In fact, that's precisely the cause of the complex fire in March of 2004. Please understand that the management team did very very little to assist the families that lost everything to that fire. After the insurance companies paid for the fires restoration and repairs, the tenants were not allowed to move back to their original apartment home unless they would pay a much higher rent. Remember to wait until the first of the month to request any service such as cable TV from the complex, because they do not pro-rate as most would expect. One tenant was forced to pay $30, for five days of basic cable TV service because he signed up on the 25th of the month. Tenants are allowed dogs, and the landscape and smells of the apartments are proof to that. As for noise, you could never find a worst apartment. Airforce jets and railroad trains roar alongside the complex 24 hours a day, seven days a week, rattling windows and drowning out conversations. Imagine living alongside the runway of any major airport, and you'll know what I mean. Apartments are not always painted or their carpets proper cleaned and shampooed after tenants move out. The reason why there's a quarter inch of paint on most surfaces, is only to hide the Lead paint that surely lies beneath. This complex is not the place to have young children that may be exposed to such materials. These are 'smoking allowed' buildings, and you will be exposed to second hand smoke day and night. There is no modern ventilation system, apartments share a common vent shaft located in each bathroom. This means that when the neighbors smoke or take a dump, you also get to enjoy the aroma. This exact same type of ventilation system was the cause for the SARS outbreak in China. I believe that this complex along with others in the neighborhood would've been condemned along time ago, if other housing options were readily available for the poor that would be displaced.

Wow i couldnt agree with you more!! This place is a dump and i wish i would of known that prior to moving in. I am a total clean freak and when i moved out my apartment was cleaner then when i moved in. The are trying to charge me a cleaning fee a months rent and a releasing fee...but if i am paying the rent i shouldnt owe the releasing fee. This place is a ---- hole. And the managment is terrible.
