Living at Aspen Ridge was a fiasco from the start. I was going to college in Bham, so I went apt hunting several months before the semester started and settled on Aspen Ridge (then Ski Lodge I) because it was affordable. I did my leasing, deposit, etc. over the phone since I lived 600 miles away. When I arrived on the day to sign the lease and move-in, there wasn't an apartment ready for me! They had no idea what to do, so they put me in a larger apartment temporarily for "a couple weeks." My move-in day, the bathroom door lock broke and I was locked inside. I had to punch a hole through the door with the toilet lid and crawl out. (They never did fix that door or the lock.) A couple weeks turned into nearly two months, and finally I moved into the smaller apartment. The apt was supposed to be furnished, but--lo and behold--there was no furniture! They had to call a rental company to get it. Moving twice was a BIG pain. I didn't know my rights at the time, but I could have told them that I was staying in the larger apt and kept paying the lower rent, but oh well. Then, in the middle of my lease, they painted the complex ORANGE. Ugly.

The office staff was completely stupid---no really, they were, and unhelpful. They had no idea what was going on...I drove 600 miles to move into an apartment that didn't exist with furniture that didn't exist. Plus, every single month I was there, they sent me an eviction notice and I had to go to the office and tell them I had payed my rent.

Come to find out, my leasing agent--who pretty much caused all this mess--was fired a few months before I moved out. I wonder why.

On the positive side, my part of the complex was quiet and had plenty of parking. The buildings were pretty quiet too, I didn't often hear the people walking above me and I never heard noise from the adjacent apt.

I hope the management is better now, but I doubt it.
