Unprofessionalism, CATS, Poor Management...........

When I was looking for an apartment I would drive around Birmingham in search for the perfect spot. My criteria was that the apartment was clean, nice, and spacious and most-importantly affordable (fitting into my budget). After going to Autumn Village to look at one of their 2 Bedroom Apartments I decided that I liked it and that it was within the scope of my budget. I filled out an application and once I was informed that my application was approved I immediately paid my security deposit. About 2 weeks after doing so, I contacted them to discuss possible move-in dates. During this conversation I was informed that my application had been approved but I would probably have to pay an additional security deposit at which time the staff member informed me that she was not sure how much I would have to pay. After about a week I contacted them again and was informed that in order for me to move in I would have to pay an additional $599 security deposit-mind you that this company already had $250 of my money 2-3 weeks prior to this. I was pressed for time and agreed to this arrangement - I ended up paying a total of $849 for my security deposit. At first I was told that my additional $599 security deposit would be applied to my first months rent, then I was told that I would get the $599 plus the refundable $125 or the $250 security deposit back totaling $ 724.00. It has been over 2 months and let me tell you, I have yet to receive a refund of my security deposit, the reason being, according to Autumn Village, is a mix up with the paperwork they submitted to their corporate office requesting my refund check. Additionally, this apartment community has a surplus of stray cats and no one on their staff viewed this as a problem after I, who am allergic to cats, and several of my neighbors complained on a number of occassions. This company does not follow-through. The first impression I received was that Autumn Village would be a nice place to live. The staff seemed well-informed of their operations and seemed friendly and nice. However, after you sign your lease all of the niceness, friendliness, niceness, and professional is out the door.
