"Cheap" with Older Buildings

First off, let me say that in moving from the Midwest, the apartments running "cheap" down here are not. Rent aside, our experience at Autumn Village has been good. The staff is accessible and friendly, and issues are resolved quickly and professionally. The grounds are clean and the plants are tended. There are however problems with living in an old complex. First, the cockroaches are in. You can clean your brains out and never leave a crumb of open food and you will still see them. Luckily, if you put in a request for pest control, which can be weekly, you will only see ones that have died trying to get in. Second, the fitness center does not open. If they show it to you on the tour, get out of the cart and look at it. Do not be fooled. It will not be opening soon. Upon moving in the apartment and carpets were clean. There are lots of layers of paint on the walls, some fixtures have been caulked into place, and our ceiling fan runs from a cord running to an outlet. For the price, I am willing to deal with these anomalies. I am used to old buildings. There are a lot of families here, and it can be noisy with kids playing- not a drawback in my opinion. If you want a new place, this is not for you. From what I've heard, the roaches come with the territory regardless of age/price. So, at least here you can count on timely service.
