I'm a Birmingham native, and I moved there mainly because of its location, and because the apartments themselves appeared nice enough. There were no surprises there. My rent was a tad steep but not crazy (again, it's location location location). I had no safety issues whatsoever, nor did I see or hear of any. I'm actually surprised to read that others had trouble -- Birmingham has plenty of seedy and off-putting trouble-zones, and the Summit ain't one of them. There was always adequate parking, though the unshaded swathes get insanely hot during the summer. The fixtures in the apartment worked fine. I had no maintenance problems per se, although maintenance did come into the place to do random inspections and crap way more often than necessary (every 2-3 months, at least). Overall the place was kept in good repair. Nice gym and pool also. This brings me to the one bad spot: the staff there were b*chy and insolent. They did get stuff taken care of, but man traditional notions of "customer services" appear to mean nothing to them. Without getting into the gory details, they lack of professionality cost me nearly $100 in a penalty that a normal company would have excused. This Stephen Bell company is a bunch of clowns. Stay on top of management and don't get bitten, and this place'll treat you alright.
