MANAGEMENT: INCOMPETENT

The only reason I rated "Staff" with 1 is because there weren't options for zeros or negative numbers. I've lived in 4 rental properties in the last 6 years. Until living at Cameron, I've had no complaints or problems whatsoever. The "management" at Cameron is incompetent to say the least. The all-female staff can't manage to walk and chew gum at the same time, much less manage an apartment complex. The best reason I can assume that they're hired is for the sake of eye-candy alone, because these girls couldn't have more than a highschool education. Overall, Cameron itself isn't that bad- until you have to deal with "management."

The 1st week I moved in, my key card didn't work. I took it back to "management" 5 times before they replaced it with an old one that at least worked. Also, there were no lights in the ceilings. Not just missing bulbs- no fixtures whatsoever. I had to install my own ceiling fans in order for their to be light. The tanning bed promised in the enticing lease was broken- and never repaired. I came home one day to find my bed soaked in water, only to realize there was a leak in the roof. Upon calling "management," I was told the soonest they could do anything would be the following week, providing better weather, and for me to just "move" my bed for the time being. The rooms aren't large, so where was I supposed to move it'' Last May, I received a phonecall from a friend asking if I was ok... turns out, buildings in the complex were burning down. No notice or letter citing a reason or explanation was ever sent.

But all that pales in comparison to the crap I've had to go through AFTER moving out. A week or so after leaving, I received an invoice from Cameron citing over $250 that I owed for miscellaneous things. Two-hundred dollars of that was them assuming I stayed past my lease date. But more than a month prior to moving, I turned in an "Intent to Vacate" letter (at Cameron's request) citing specifically that would NOT be renewing my lease. I went back and forth with them over the ridiculous misunderstanding and at no point did anyone provide a clear answer or reason behind the charge. When asking to speak with management, I was continuously redirected to more inept sorority girls who couldn't provide much more than a ditsy rehearsed excuse as to why a manager wasn't around. I left message after message and when no one returned calls, I assumed the misunderstanding had been handled... until I received a letter from a collection agency in December- 7 months later! I immediately called S.D. Bell (Cameron's property management), but apparently their employees come from the same planet as the resident management. I left multiple messages and after almost 2 weeks, someone returned my call. However, they could only waive 3 days of fees for the time I allegedly stayed past my lease expiration. Still leaving 2 days of fees (this brought the amount down to $150 .) According to the woman I spoke with, this was due to "state law" prohibiting management from going into my apartment until at least 48 hours after my lease expired. Also according to her, when signing my lease I agreed to return the keys to someone in the leasing office. I went over my lease, and nowhere did it say I had to return anything or even do so much as give notice that I was leaving to begin with- (which IS backed by state law Section 35-9-8.) Furthermore, I found there was also nothing that backed up her refusal to waive the extra 2 days of late fees due to her aforementioned, and otherwise non-existent "48 hour law."

So, along with lying to me, property management is just as apathetic as the leasing office.

After another barrage of back and forth messages which ultimately lead to me threatening to take legal action, the "impossibility" to waive the remaining 2 day rental charge magically "vanished." However, their response to my accusations of them lying to me about this was:

"Due to some some misunderstanding between you and the team at Cameron we will waive the two days of rent..."

To this point, nothing has been done about the remaining balance of the account. I was told (more than once) by property management, that the "Team" would get in touch with the collection agency and give them the correct balance, etc. It's now been three days, and according to the agency, no one from Cameron has contacted them. Why am I not surprised.

When first reading this forum, I was blown away at the amount of complaints about the exact same problems with management. I just wish someone would've told me before I had to find out for myself. BEWARE!!! If it were possible, I'd spend my weekends standing out front of their leasing office with a sign, warning people! This is, by far, the worst "management" I've ever seen in my life- not in leasing offices, ANYWHERE. I wouldn't believe half the things on this message board if I hadn't experienced it for myself.
