It's been good, it's getting better

I have been here for over 6 years now, and I have seen good times and better times. These are some of the better times. Management staff in the complex has turned over 4 or 5 times since I've been here, but the current staff is definitely the best. The staff (including maintenance personnel) are attentive and responsive to tenants' complaints and quick to offer solutions when possible. They are quick to offer apologies for things which are not under their control- acts of God, acts of other residents, etc.
Fair Housing laws and critics of the Patriot Act who don't allow them to verify potential residents' citizenship, however, have lead to a recent increase in illegal aliens on the property- that is the law's fault, not Colonial Village's. Our last 2 courtesy officers (Deputy Brian Williams and Sgt. Greg Fitts of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department) were nothing but derelicts. They, not "Colonial Village", were responsible for some tenants' complaints that our pool was unsupervised, that they failed to respond to calls, etc. Hopefully, our next courtesy officer will be reasonably competent- they can't be worse than the one-two combination of Williams and Fitts.
I have never feared for my safety here, nor have I struggled to find a place to park. Our apartment parking lot is spacious, and staff is doing their best to accomodate those in the townhome side of the complex. Hopefully, our next courtesy officer will do his/her job and enforce parking rules, such as the requirements that residents have valid tags (and tags PERIOD), residents only park in handicapped spots if they are handicapped, and that commercial trucks not park on the premises (especially semi trucks).
