Water & Sewer out of sight!

I live here for several years in a one bedroom apt no washer or dryer. My latest water & sewer bill is close to $80.00. When I spoke to the management they said perhaps I should move when my lease is up. I love living here and I don't want to move. Then I was told that they might not renew my lease. I have always paid my rent on time and I pride myself in being an excellent resident. I think I deserve to be treated in a better manner than this.

As the manager I try to respond to each and every concern a resident has. When called today concerning the water and sewer bill I suggested we come in and inspect the apartment for possible leaks. If there is a leak we will be more than happy to correct the problem. I did not ask you to move only make the comment that I know water and sewer is a great expense for you. I also did not say I would not renew your lease. This is a absolute misunderstanding on your part. You have paid your rent on time and we do appreciate that. I am sure you like to be treated with respect as I do also. When working through a problem
open communication is best. Our goal here is to have
happy residents that plan to live here for years. My offer stands that we will be glad to come in and check for any possible leaks or problems with your permission.

When I called you I thought was open communication you told you had nothing further to say to me in a very hateful tone. I am the customer the resident if it were not for residents like myself you would not have a job! Maybe if you were kinder to the residents you would have :happy residents". You must realize as a mgr there will be conflicts. I have lived here for 7 years and I don't plan on moving! But the entire community here has problems with water and sewer not just me.
BTW, here is the customer service policy from The Abbey's website perhaps you should read it.
Our goal is to exceed our residents?????? expectations and enable them to enjoy the rewarding and convenient lifestyle they have chosen. We know that each of our residents has a choice when selecting their new home, and we appreciate being chosen by them. We will work hard each day to continue to please the most important people in the world who pass through our doors ?????? OUR RESIDENTS. It is because of them that we are in business

I totally agree with the extremely high water bills!! Management does not do a thing about it either! After living in the complex 2 years and paying right around 80- 90 dollars each month just for water, I decided that I had to move! They are ripping people off. If you're smart, you won't live here! Like the person above said, it is not a leak in one apartment causing EVERYONE in the complex to complain about high water bills!! The previous tennants, like myself need to sue to be reimbursed. Fair is fair!! I hope someone investigates this place!!!!

This is not a misunderstanding. The manager is not nice when you address issues about cost and water. When we went to renew our lease and asked why they upped our rent when the gate never works and we had a hole in our ceiling, she just said that's part of the apartment life and that we didn't pay for the gate. The water is TOO expensive when you look it up and compare it to Jefferson county sewer rates. The maintenance men have even told myself and other tenants they do not check the water meters. It's kind of hard to when you have to have 24 hours notice to enter an apartment and the water meter is inside the apartments. They also do not work. We had ours replaced while living there and when we left it still had the exact same number on it as the day it was replaced. The assistant in the office is great, caring, and super friendly, the head land lady is not. I completely believe the person above me when they say the landlady told her she might not renew her lease and if the cost was too much to find another apartment.

I am in the market for a new place that I am going to share with a friend. We had initially thought about looking into these apartments, and thanks to all of these "testimonials" I will NOT be spending the money that it will take to live here and in turn have to deal with outrageous bills and unprofessional management. Thank you fellow Birmingham apartment dwellers, for saving the rest of us time and money!!!
