Just moved in a couple weeks ago.
Positives - 1. Spacious, Clean, Everything works 2. Brand-new and efficient appliances 3. Nice (though not fancy) and clean fitness center and pool 4. Very friendly and quiet neighbors, 5. Secluded location yet fairly accessible to major roads ( 7 miles from downtown/UAB), grocery stores, etc. 6. Very nice staff 7. One of the biggest positives for me is that I haven't seen any roaches. Since moving from Dallas, it seems that roaches are everywhere in Birmingham! I can't stand them, so I am thankful that we don't have a roach problem.
Negatives - 1. Place is still under construction (so the outside is a little dusty) 2.No fans or light fixtures (but mountings already installed so it was easy for me to install fans) 3. Carpet and some other construction materials aren't the highest quality 4. Garages are 100/month. 5. Gate is closed during the day but open all night.
Summary:
We had to decide between buying a place and renting an apartment for a while. Lakeshore Ridge made the moving process very easy. The price for our 3-bedroom (at 1085 after the mandatory cable and internet package) is steep compared with many other apartments in B-ham but you get what you pay for. See reviews for other b-ham apartments on this sight or, better yet, spend a few days in b-ham looking at apartments (like we did) and you will see what I mean. The price is less than what an interest-only mortgage payment would have been for a little cottage in Homewood. What the place may lack in charm, it makes up in convenience.
