Don't move here, period, unless you like living with crack addicts and hearing gun shots every now and then!!! You'll feel right at home! Look at all the signs that are up both here and across the street--offering free rent, etc. That should tell you something-they can't KEEP DECENT PEOPLE HERE!
I've lived here since 2001 and have been stuck here due to financial reasons and just wanted to save some money, plus I had lots of friends here back then who were going to school and wanted a cheap but decent place to stay as well. It was ok for us back then but has progressively gotten worse to the point that I am embarrassed to tell people I live in this part of Homewood. Now you hear constant thumping of stereo systems all hours of the night with people driving souped up Escalades (wondering where they got that money to buy those cars yet can't afford a house..''), kids screaming at midnight while their parents do God knows what. Homewood PD has given up on this place long ago. Gunshots are simply a part of the auditory ambiance. Ask the employees in the rental office if they live here. ASK. No amount of pretty pictures of the model units they have will ever compensate for the other crap you have to put up with-drug dealing neighbors convicted of rape (I was visited by 2 cops last yr looking for a neighbor accused of domestic abuse), roaches, trash flying everywhere. Just drive down Valley Ave --within a miles distance you have several pawn shops, liquor stores, a huge strip club (Sammy's)....it's amazing they build the middle school right smack dab in the middle of it!!! Come visit this place for yourself and look at the cars in the lot, the defunct laundry room, the dark green swimming pool with people swimming IN IT, trash on the grounds....
My advice' Move to Southside...I feel safer there now than I do on Valley Avenue
