All Things Considered, One of the Better Places in Birmingham

Spent three years here as a grad student and, all in all, I've been impressed. The community does have some undergrads, but for the most part, residents seem to be grad students at UAB or Samford. As a result it is a mostly quiet complex as far as apartments go. There were the occasional noisy nights--maybe half a dozen over three years--but it amounted to someone laughing or goofing off in the parking lot at 1 a.m. on a weekend (I lived on a ground floor unit).

Location is good if you're a UAB or Samford student; it's about 10 minutes to Samford, which is just down the street on Lakeshore, and 15 to Southside/Downtown (via I65). You'll save yourself a huge headache by not living in Hoover or out 280 in Inverness.

The immediate neighborhood has actually improved over the past several years. When I moved in, there was a really dumpy movie theater (required police security). It has since closed and been replaced with a church, which really improved things. There is a Wal-Mart nearby which is somewhat...shady. All in all, though, not a bad place to be. There are many much worse places in Birmingham. As far as crime goes, Birmingham is generally not the safest area, but I haven't heard of any problems occurring in the complex.

Like any construction, stuff breaks, but the maintenance staff seems to really be on the ball about fixing it once notified. I had an issue with my A/C that took several visits to figure out and repair and Jaime stayed late one night working on it. The front gate does seem to be out of order and tied open an inordinate amount of time, but whatever. Cindy and Tommie in the front office are extremely easy-going and are responsive to residents' concerns.

The buildings are fairly well constructed. My one complaint has more to do with the habits of my upstairs neighbor. Honestly, who vacuums their apartment at 7 a.m. on Sundays' Other reviews seem to complain about bugs...welcome to the South. In addition to the pest control provided by the complex, I went to Lowe's and bought some bug spray for $10 for spot treatments which seems to have corralled the problem (a gallon has lasted me 3 years).

I give the complex a 4.5/5.0 and would recommend it to others moving to the area.
