My wife and I, along with our two cats, have been here since August of 2007.

Parking: Parking is great. You can rent a covered space for $10/month, or you can park on the curb. There is always parking available near by.

Noise: Living at Park Lane is like living in a house in the country - quite and peaceful. Even neighbors' barking dogs can't be heard unless you go out into the hall. I have two neighbors with small dogs, and I have never heard them from inside my apartment.

Grounds: Always beautiful, grass is cut weekly, tenants take pride in their flower gardens, and some even grow vegetables in the back, trees line the sidewalks...just gorgeous.

Safety: Well, it's Mountain Brook. The safest neighborhoods are almost always the wealthiest, and Mt. Brook is the wealthiest in the state. I have never experienced or heard of anyone experiencing an instance of crime in Park Lane.

Construction: Solid, old buildings with thick walls...well-built with no frills. You'll find no pool, no washer/dryer connections, and no work-out facilities. What you will find is honest, quaint, large, cozy apartments with great neighbors, and a wonderful staff to back everything up.

Maintenance: Simply the best. We've had a refrigerator and a dishwasher break down this year. Each time, the appliance was replaced the same day, or the day after. If anything breaks, they fix it right the first time, and on time.

Staff: "Our Joy", as we call her, is the friendliest, most competent property manager I have ever known. She is willing to bend over backwards for anyone, as long as they demonstrate a willingness to follow the rules. Be honest and respectful with her, and she will repay double. If these apartments are ever torn down, I would hope she would manage some other property, and I would live there. A small minority have problems with Miss Joy. But these are people who do not respect their neighbors, who break the rules consistently. I can't imagine her ever being unfair to someone who had done all he/she could. Joy is the best.

Overall: Park Lane Apartments is not a good place for loud, violent or disrespectful tenants. Those people will hate living here. But for those who want security, peace and quiet, a positive, no-frills environment, and a great staff, this is the place for you. If you enjoy simple pleasures, and have respect for those living around you, you will not find a better apartment in Jefferson County, or Shelby County for that matter.
