After a couple of years living together, my roommate and I decided that it was time for us to go our separate ways and make that step to purchase our 1st homes. We started to go thru the process of finding out when our lease expired. What we found out was that the person that had us sign our last leasing agreement did not inform us of Colonials policy that states that only so many residents may expire their lease on a certain day. We assumed that the day we signed our lease, that it would also be the day it expired. We ended up signing a lease that would expire a whole month after we assumed our lease would expire. We do admit that it's partly our fault for not reading the lease more carefully but the leasee also has a responsiblity to explain this to us as their customer. Not only was Colonial unwilling to let us leave early, they also asked us if they could rent out our apartment to someone else while we were paying that last months rent! Also, it took entirely too long to receive our deposit back. I had to call several times to get someone to find out what was the hold up. My sister was also a resident and she encountered the same problem when she left. I would not recommend any Colonial Properties b/c they are not flexible and do not care about their customers.
