A fire just waiting to happen!

The dryer vents in these apartments are fire hazards and are not up to code. The one in my building has vinyl hose venting the dryer in the wall and supposedly out of the building. I was alerted to this problem when I would use my dryer and my thermostat, which is located on the other side of the wall from the vent, would max out at 90 every time I used my dryer. I pulled my dryer out and reached up inside to feel if the "pipe" was connected but found the vinyl hose instead and it was disconnected. I called maintenance and was informed that the dryer and the thermostat were on the same wall. They didn?t even check to see if the vent was OK. I called them back and made the guy feel inside the vent and then he realized the problem but he wasn?t concerned and said it wouldn?t catch fire as it had been that way for 14 years. I used to work for a certified dryer tech and I can tell you that the situation is more dangerous now than when first built. Check with csia.org and see what they say about dryer vents or search for "dryer fires" on the internet to see how dangerous they are. Also, maintenance here is not very good. If you get something fixed within a week then you are doing good. If you decide to rent here then definately get renter?s insurance. They have already had one building burn down on New Years eve of 2000.
