I've read all these reviews and am literally shocked because my experience here has been great since day 1! (Now granted, having moved from the slummy part of Homewood, I guess my views might be a bit different).
I have a "walk in" apt with 8 ft windows facing trees and it is absolutely GORGEOUS. Everything in my unit has been updated-the walls have been painted this almond rose color that literally makes the crown moulding "pop" out. The wood blinds give the windows a really modern look. All my light fixtures are new-Hampton ceiling fans and that vintage rustic lamp look that matches my Pier 1 stuff. The carpet looks like new (was shampooed the day I was able to move in), my bathroom is pretty big and I love the fact that w/d connections are right there AND it has glass window sliding doors! The kitchen and BR tiles are all new...even my appliances are new. The walk in to my apt is clean and looks nice, too. It really is nice and can compare to some of the nicer apt complexes such as Barrington on the Green or Cameron at the Summit. Of course, not quite the same caliber yet, but I have a feeling that is where this place is trying to head.
I feel very safe here and have not seen 1 suspicious looking person since moving here. Everyone in the office has been really nice. I suspect that before Engel bought this place it was being run by shoddy management and the effects of that are still lingering.
I did get a chance to look at some of the "before renovation" apts (peeking in windows of empty apts just to be nosy) and did see a big difference in the way they looked versus the unit I have. BIG difference. And although this sounds bad, but I think the apt is trying to "get rid" of certain clientele and attract a different group of people.....let's just say that the apts with the old plastic blinds have different types of cars parked outside then the apts that appear to be updated. Yeah, I said it. But that's just my own personal observation.
Probably the only "complaint" I have is that it is kinda dark outside at night. Lighting could be better. And I think it should be a gated community also for the price they want you to pay AFTER all these specials.

There are some nice things like the wooded area and yes the Riverchase area is nice, but for those that have lived here we haven't received the new paint, the appliances, the window blinds, ceiling fans, ect.Which you would think they would do for the existing renters instead of raising their rent 20% because they gave everyone else a face lift. Try to get your air conditioning fixed or replaced is a big issue here. And you are right poorly lit at night and for teh price they charge it should be gated!
