The Meadows of Brook Highland is a two-phase apartment community, among the first developments in what is now Birmingham's Brook Highland/Greystone area. Although the Meadows' units are older than most in the general area, the property is clean, safe and reasonably priced.
Many apartmentratings.com submitters have criticized the Meadows for insect problems. Although I have had some minor ant problems, pest control treatment is available upon request, and the few problems I've experienced can be handled with a can of Raid. Also, all my maintenance concerns are addressed in a few hours, with one air conditioning technician staying after hours to ensure the job was done.
The Internet tends to bring out the worst in people. When a person is wronged, they tend to yell about it online. However, very few people will post positive comments about a website, company or even an apartment community.
The Meadows is not perfect. It has a number of quirks present in any 25-some-odd year old development. Many units have old appliances (My refrigerator was replaced some six months into my lease) and the groundskeepers could use a bit of a nudge in keeping the hedges trimmed. That said, this older community has good floor plans, and a number of three bedroom units without upstairs or downstairs neighbors-- a plus if you're looking for a quiet apartment or need something on the ground floor. If you're looking new build units with amenities you may never use, the Meadows probably isn't for you. However, if you're looking for a reasonable lease in a popular area, you might just call the Meadows home.
