DO NOT RENT HERE!

I lived in this apartment for several years and always paid my rent on time. There was one time where I wasnt able to pay on the due date of Sat and paid the following monday for a substantial fee.
I had move because of work and paid $2000 to break my lease (2 months rent plus the concession from discounted rate) I asked about the 30 day notice because I had turned in my notice on Feb. 2. The manager told me that the notice would just go to the end of the month and I would not have to pay and additional months rent for not giving a full 30 days notice. 3 months later I get a call from a collection agency saying I have been turned over to collection for the additional money! I called several times after moving to confirm the final amount to break the lease, but they never returned my calls. I called on time asking why my check had not been deposited, and they said the lady in charge had been sick. I asked if that was all that was needed and they said it was. I should have asked for that in writing.
This is a terrible place to rent. I heard gun shots at night and called the police on several occassions. I had several letters from management about break in at other units. People dont pick up after their pets. I was woken many time to Mariachi band music. The dryer vent was blocked and would not dry my clothes which then resulted in water damage from condensation in the celing. Management was unable to fix this even after drilling holes in my closet celing.
I am so happy to be out of this apartment, it was almost worth the money I paid to break the lease. I asked if I could prorate part of March to make a full 30 days, but was told the notice would just go to the end of Feb. I would have paid the additional money if they would have told me. I called several times to confirm the amount, but my calls were never returned. They had my cell number which did not change.
DO NOT RENT HERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!! Even if the rent is considerably cheaper, you will save money in the long run by getting a nicer place.
PS Even though I had an 800 credit rating, I really dont care because I pay cash now anyways! :P Fortunately it wont be going on my credit report since I paid what was owed. Of course they could have just told me the right thing from the start and saved themselves the trouble. GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING IF YOU ARE UNFORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE TO RENT HERE.
