Lived there two different times. Let's face it, there no such thing as the "perfect apartment complex"

Some of you kill me with your dramatic reviews. I lived at these apartments 2 different times throughout my life. The first time was for 14 months from June 1985-August 1986. I was only 12 years old back then, so of course it was with my parents. I loved it for the most part. Of course, the place was fairly new back then. My only complaint was that the management of that era did not offer cable tv. I had never heard of such, and I used to voice my complaints with them on that subject. But, being a kid, they didn't listen to me, and my parents did not seem to mind the fact that no cable tv was offered there, so i was SOL in that one. Other than that, my first stint there was fine. None of these gang land activities that I hear about now seemd to be happening. So, we fast forward to my second stint at these apartments. It was only for a year from 2002-2003. Not as nice as I had remembered them being, but it wasn't exactly the mean streets of Philadelphia either. This time around, you could actually get cable there, so that was good. Plus, it had been about 16 years since I had left, so naturally the place didn't have it's "youthful" look like it di in the 1980's. Anyway, money troubles caught up with me, so I had to move back in with my parents, and thus that is the reason my second stint there ended. But, what has happened there since 2003' To hear some of ya'll tell it, you would think there were crack houses, gang wars, rapings, beatings, auto thefts, police brutality, etc. Some of this is being blown out of proportion a bit. Also, just like the saying goes no matter where you go, there you are. Meaning, there is no such thing as the "perfect apartment complex" like people have been searching for since the dawn of time. That is a myth. You can move all over Hoover, Vestavia, Homewood, Jefferson County, Birmingham, Shelby County, you name it. You will run into something you don't like. I have a friend who has moved 8 times in under 3 years, and he is STILL griping. He almost killed himself over the "living conditions" at his third apartment complex. And this is from somebody who is SO trashy, he shares a bed with his brother and his brother's girlfriend! Anyway, perfection in apartment complexes does not exist. Just get used to it.

I just moved out of Riverchase Landing, since we've been trying to get away for a while and it was a great time to buy a house. When we moved in four years ago, it was as you said. Not so new looking, uncaring management and a little dark at night, but otherwise livable and occasionally pleasant. It was just in the past couple of years that it has gone way downhill. Honestly, most of these reviews are taking it easy on the place in my opinion. The only good thing that I have to say about it now is that the management got considerably better with the last change of command. There may be no such thing as a perfect apartment, but there should at least be minimum standards that they need to hold their residents up to. It really can be a horrifying experience driving home late at night, with all of the gangs of teenagers loitering in the middle of the road. Especially when they yell insults if you don't go out of your way to go around them. My family just refused to visit unless it was daylight. When you pay that much for an apartment, you do deserve better than to feel like you'll get robbed or worse walking into your own home.

The only thing that I can at all agree with you is that there is no such thing as an PERFECT apartment complex. HOWEVER>>>>Riverchase Landing since you left has gone down. For the amount of money that we spend for rent.... we as renters DESERVE better! Also, my last complex (Lake Heather Reserve as well as Barrington on The Green) both in Hoover were quite as expected as a "family" community as well as well taken care of. Not to mention the office staff was professional and cared what the community expressed to them!

We are a family of 4. Myself, my husband and our 2 young children. Our lease is up in 3 months and we are lookn at this community to stay until we decided to purchase our hm. I actually drove thru the community to ask current residents and i got the same response a shoulder shrug and a not so excited'its alright'. We are drawn here becuz of the awesome space and his/her bathrm sinks no to mention the garden tub in the 2x2.1/2. I spoke with one lady who is moving out of Riverchase Landing and she stated that the teenagers walking around at all times of the night and sitting on your car at night was a huge problem... Another pet peve of mine is staff they are so nice and accomodating before you sign the lease and afterward its like you are bothering them, if you are a CURRENT resident (not mgt) please respond to this and lemme know your pros and cons aout this community... I will be checking back often... thanks in advance.

well i don't live there but my best friend does and i visit often.you can not walk without having to watch where you step.Oh my god the children are so disrespectful and always looking for a fight. My friend has been living there for a few yrs and is afraid to leave her house at night and if she has to work at night her husband has to meet her at the car.People pay a lot of money to live in those apt and should at least feel safe. The parents of the teenagers are not around and when you try to talk to them about there child they get defensive and ready to fight(thats were the kids get it from). The rules say no parties and no barbeques outside of apts but the rd behind the office has had several "block parties" with some of hoover officers in attendance.I have lived in hoover for over five years and that would be the last place i live or recommend.Someone needs to hire night security and hold the parent of the child accountable. What happened to the curfew that was in place?

I lived there for about two years and the living space is amazing. I really enjoyed the apartment and my neighbors were ok. We did have a family that parked there camper right infront of the apartment and it took up 4 spaces (they parked it sideways). I complained to management and they did nothing about it. Also, our toilet had a leak and we called maintenance to fix it. they were quick to respond and fixed the leak but unfortunately, they stole my husbands $1200 citizen dive watch that we had out in our bedroom! the leak was in the hall bath, so he had no reason to go in our room. We called management about it, and all they said was that's what renter insurance was for and that they hire repretable people.....We moved out quickly after that.
