I lived at Garden Gate Apartments for a little over six months and it was great! When I was looking for an apartment I needed something small, just for me, and affordable. Plus, I go to UAH so I wanted something close to school. Garden Gate was all of these. I could leave my apartmemt and be at school in less than 10 minutes. Traffic is never too bad except during school drop-off and pick-up times when you have to go slow. Morris Elementary is right down the street, as is a middle school. There are only one bedrooms here but they are not studios. They are absolutely spotless when you move in and your air filters and smoke detector batteries are changed often. When my toilet leaked someone came to fix it that day. Anytime I had a problem it was taken care of ASAP. The on-site laundry room is pretty good, about 50 cents a load. Parking is never a problem. Water and cable are included, so that makes it even more affordable! There's no pool or tennis courts or anything like that because it's a small community, only about 2 buildings. But hey, who has time to use all that crap anyway' I have pretty high standards and I do not want to live anywhere that is in a dangerous area of town. Garden Gate is close to some other areas that I would NEVER live in, but it is perfectly fine in my opinion. I never felt threatened. It's really near the Botanical Gardens and a neighborhood full of older people. And the brick apartments next door are not the greatest but not dangerous. The manager is named Don Hooks and he is always helpful. But don't try to grill out because he lives on-site and will walk down there and make you stop! But he is very flexible on your lease term and will help you out on how long you want to stay. They have a no pet policy. You can often smell the neighbors' dinner and hear them in their bathroom, but it wasn't too bad. The landscaping people get on your nerves because they come early and walk around with their blower FOREVER. There's a day care across the street so sometimes if you're home in the middle of the day you'll hear kids screaming on the playground while you're trying to watch tv. Overall, if you need somewhere convenient and affordable, this is a good place to go.
