I have lived at The Landing Apartments for about a year. It's one of several apartment communities in the Edgewater area, and the least expensive, perhaps because it doesn't sit directly on the lake. If you want to live in a quiet, safe neighborhood and want to save some money, I highly recommend them.

The Landing Apartments are not as new as those in the more expensive neighboring communities, but I have found that my unit is well maintained. The grounds are attractive, and several residents have planted small flower gardens. The swimming pools are small but kept very clean, and residents have access to a much larger pool and small fitness room at the Edgewater clubhouse.

I live in the smaller of the two 1-bedroom floorplans. It is most suitable for a single person without much furniture. The living room is respectably sized and has lots of windows and a ceiling fan. Curiously, there is no phone jack in the living room. There is a small patio/balcony with a modest outdoor storage closet.

The kitchen is very compact. There's no pantry and not much cabinet space, and the appliances are 7/8 scale. I don't cook much, so it's fine for me, but people who like to cook might want to consider the larger 1-bedroom floorplan. There is a microwave hanging under the cabinets; the dishwasher works well, but is noisy. There's no dining room, but the kitchen has a built-in table for two.

The apartment comes with a compact, stackable washer/dryer in the utility closet. The washer works well enough, but the dryer is slow. The larger floorplans have bigger laundry closets with washer/dryer connections.

The bedroom is average-sized and has a walk-in closet. Unfortunately, there is no ceiling fan in the bedroom. The bathroom is small, but has lots of cabinets for storage. The tub/shower is a one-piece fiberglass unit that I find easy to clean.

Maintenance has always been quick to respond to my requests. The office staff are very friendly and helpful.

The wall insulation seems to be pretty good: I have never heard noise from my neighbors coming through the common wall. On the other hand, I often hear my upstairs neighbor's footsteps; fortunately, we go to bed at the same time, so he doesn't keep me awake.

The heating and A/C is all electric. My utility bills average $40 per month, with winter being the most expensive time. I have had summertime utility bills of only $20, because with the shade from the trees, good wall insulation, and a north-facing apartment, I rarely have to run the A/C.
