Overall, a great place to live

I lived at Lily Flagg Station for three years while I attended UAH. Overall, it is a great place to live, and I would recommend it. I eventually had to move out because the rent got too high and I could not find a replacement roommate to move in with me.

Pros: It's a safe, quiet, well-kept complex with a friendly staff. I'm a young, single female and I never felt unsafe walking around, even at night. They have two nice pools (which do tend to become overcrowded with kids, but that's not the complex's fault), tennis courts, and a laundromat. They host fun resident activities every once in a while. Maintenance is helpful and quick to respond to work orders in writing (work orders taken by phone tend to get lost). The office staff is always friendly. It's close enough to the UAH campus (11 15 minutes) that I had no trouble commuting. Units and appliances aren't new by any means, but they were taken care of. We had no problems moving in or out and weren't charged any move-out fees.

Cons: Rent was raised quite a bit every time I signed a new lease. I once had a run-in with a maintenance man who didn't understand the meaning of a yield sign and wrote me up for not stopping when no one was coming. The water was shut off more times than I can remember (more than a dozen times) with always the same excuse: the water main broke. Eventually we just accepted the lie and kept a gallon of water for those times. I once had to call the fire station because the steam from the shower set off the fire alarm, and they didn't seem the least bit concerned that one of their properties may have been burning down. We would have an ant invasion in the master bedroom every May. They only opened the pools for a few months out of the year regardless of the weather (I could understand this if they paid for a lifeguard service, but they don't).

Other #1: For the first year and a half, we had a crazy downstairs neighbor who would complain about noise if we dared to walk around after quiet hours. She wrote us up several times, and the office staff gave us warning letters, but never carried through with any threats because they knew she was crazy. Problems stopped when the old lady moved out.

Other #2: We kept a cat for three years and a dog for one year without ever signing a pet agreement or paying their super-high pet deposit. The animals weren't a secret, but the staff either didn't care or didn't put two and two together.

It's not perfect, but I'm glad I spent my years in Huntsville living at Lily Flagg.
