Not Worth It

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2006
I recently moved out of Paddock Club and was glad to do so. The so called "gated community" with gates that never work so you might as well just take them down. When I signed my lease, they never told me about the ISTA bill that you get every month, in addition to your lease payment. It just showed up. This is evidently not uncommon, other residents told me they were never told they were going to get a bill from ISTA every month either. This bill supposedly covers your sewage, pest control and garbage collection. Now there is only one garbage collection point for the entire complex and its over by the entrance / exit. So if you live on the far side of the complex you have to carry your trash all the way over to the other side of the complex and place it in the trash compactor for them. They charge you for this. As for the pest control, I was ever so glad to be paying for that when my apartment was invaded by ants and I lost a bunch of food. I wasn't the only one either, many apartments over the winter months had serious ant problems. They did come and take care of it after a couple weeks, but I'm thinking "gee, if I'm paying for pest control every month you would think they could prevent massive ant invasions before they happen." Guess not. They had a problem with people that didn't live there coming over to use the pool at night so they changed the locks on the pool house and handed out new keys. This lasted for a couple months and then they replaced that with a coded keypad system that you had to punch in your code on to get in. Of course they didn't announce that they were going to do that so one day my key just became useless because there was this big keypad thing on the door.
The parking at my building was god awful. There were 16 apartments in that building, 8 were 3 bedroom and 8 were 2 bedroom. Now anyone with a modicum of common sense could figure out that just about, if not all of the 3 bedroom apartments would be occupied by at least two drivers, so two cars in the lot. It also stands to reason that most of the two bedroom apartmetns will have two drivers, which they did. The building had 20 parking spaces in front of it for residents. That's just poor planning on the part of whomever built the complex to allow so little parking for that many apartments. There should be at least 35 parking spaces for a building with 16 apartments. The parking was so bad that people were forced to park along the curb side next to the garages and then the complex managment would come along and leave nasty notes if you did that. Gee, I guess we'll just park 3 or 4 buildings away and walk to my apartment that I pay premium prices for. You would think that if I'm going to pay $830 a month for an apartment I could at least get a parking space outside my own building at night.
In recent months it seems they have been moving in a lot more thugs who are disrupptive. One day I was walking into my apartment and a couple of young guys were hanging out on the covered porch of their apartment when a friend of theirs pulled up and got out of his car. This guy on the porch yells out "Hey -----!" to his friend and his friend repsonds with "What -----!". Yeah real funny guys, real cool, except that there's women and children around that maybe don't what to hear your ghetto trash mouth. This is not uncommon behavior in Paddock club now. These are the kinds of people they are moving in. Low brow, low class trash.
The apartments themselves are built with cheapest materials available and they charge premium prices for it. The kitchen was awash in cheap partical board counter tops and closet shelves were those cheap white wire mesh junk you can get at Home Depot. It looked like the kind of thing you use to organize your garage not store things in your closet.
The speed bumps all over the place are a pain in the butt but needed because there are plenty of residents there that would surely have killed some little kid by now. They still drive way too fast through the parking lot. Course this is what happens when you lease apartments to a bunch of trash that couldn't care less about anyone else but themselves.
The office staff is pretty nice and they seem to be helpful. But most people at this place are voting with their feet. Moving trucks are a common sight. People have just had it with paying this kind of premium money for these kinds of problems. I didn't enjoy living at Paddock Club and I'm glad to be out of it. I hope they figure out a way to get it together over there because it could be a very pleasent place to live. But right now I'd say it's not worth it for the money, at all.
