Nice apartments in a nice area

I moved into the Paddock Club in May of 2005. I have a very nice 2 bedroom 1 bath apartment. The second bedroom is somewhat small but I live alone so I use it as an office.
The bathroom is incredible! After seeing it I was sold on this place. I'm in the Phase II apartments, so my bathroom has a whirlpool tub, a separate shower, two sinks, and a separte room for the toilet. I've seen apartments that advertised "garden tub" or "whirlpool tub", but it turned out to be not much larger than a regular bath tub. This one really is big, though.
The "walk-in" closet is big enough that you could fit a bed in it if you wanted. The smaller bedroom has a regular-sized closet.
The porch is screened in, so you can actually sit outside without being eaten alive by bugs.
The Providence area has grown a lot in the past year. There are now a few restaurants within walking distance, and there will soon be shops and a grocery store.
The fitness center is not the greatest, but it's ok. There's a tanning bed that's free, three treadmills, a bike, and an elliptical machine. There are also some weight machines and a sauna.
The gates now work, although they usually don't close them on weeknights until after 10 pm.
I did have someone try to break into my apartment in December. The person would have succeeded if a neighbor hadn't scared him away. That's the only safety issue I've had.
The quality of maintenance varies. I think this is more of an issue with the people in the office, though, because when I've left messages at night or on the weekend (clogged toilet, sink--emergency issues) that go directly to the maintenance people I get an immediate response. If you tell the people in the office you have a problem you will most likely have to call several times--broken garbage disposal took 3 calls before someone came and fixed it. But for emergency issues, just wait until the office is closed and call the emergency number and you'll get immediate attention.
Other people have mentioned that they weren't told of the ISTA bills before they moved in, but I was, and it was in the lease I signed. A few months ago they changed it so that instead of mailing the payment you just pay it with your rent every month. For a 2 bed/1 bath my water and sewage is between $25 & $30. My gas and electricity combined runs between $70 and $80.
Overall, I've been very pleased with the place.

Must have been better in 05/06. Because the place has totally gone downhill. Take everything bad in this review and multiply it by 10. While the tub, fireplace (who needs a fireplace in Alabama) and porch are nice. Theses are just selling points for the apartment. We've used the tub maybe 8 times in the 1.5 years here. The porch is good for storage. The fireplace.. well like I said..It's Alabama. You'll turn it on just to see if it works. Try living in Chicago, you'll be wishing you had that fireplace then. The gates are a joke. I've had less trouble getting into Redstone Arsenal than OUT of this apartment complex. Ants, Mold, thieving kids. It's a circus.
