I hate sunlake. I was tricked into moving in by the ad in the apartment guide and the staff who was sweet until after we signed the lease then she turned into a -----. Please dont be tricked by the lake, there is dog and duck poop everywhere. and it stinks. also there is NO FISH whatsoever in the lake. I know this from long hours sitting out there with a pole and talking to neighbors. and the "fitness center"' all the equipment is broken. there used to be a steam room but everyone smoked and had sex in it so now it is closed. They once claimed to have raquetball (which sounds fun) but, once agian, that got messed up and it is no longer offered. The staff who took "care" of us was so sweet when I moved in, but as soon as the ink dried on the lease, she turned into a psycho ----- who is short with me when she speaks to me and rolls her eyes at me when I say hello. And I'm still not done. When we first moved in, it looked all great. we signed a lease for 550 a month. We are now paying over 700 a month because they tack on whatever extra fees they want to. They once charged us a late fee for 50 cents we forgot to include in the rent. they will declare your rent late unless you pay it well before the fifth. When we moved in, we thought everything was awesome. Then we discovered, the kitchen floor han't even been srubbed, the oven was broken, the french doors were broken, and a few plugs were out ( I discovered this after I SHOCKED MYSELF while using a hair dryer). and guess what' i reported all these about seven months ago. guess what else' THEY ARE STILL NOT FIXED. And I'm still not done. Last summer, they were doing repairs on all the buildings. So on the days I didnt have class and didnt have to work, I wanted to just lay in bed. But I was woken up by men pounding on my rooftop before seven a.m. I even caught one of the workers peering through my window at me while i was laying in my bed. they left out scraps of wood and nails out in the breezeway (which was completely dark because they took out the lights) and my husband stepped on one of the nails sticking up straight out the wood. There was also a problem with the ants. I am not careless about leaving food out but the ants seemed to find my tightly sealed sugar products. I opened my pantry door one day to find an army (and when i say army i mean millions of them) of ants on the wall. it literally looked like a big black mound moving. when the guy came to clear up the ants, he said it was the worst case he has ever seen in his life and we werent the only ones with that problem that it was everyone in the building! I cant wait until my lease is up. please consider all that i have told you carefully before you waste your money, time, and life on sunlake.

We have experienced almost every problem mentioned in this review. Bait and switch seems to be their standard way of doing business. They have been renovating the entire time I've lived here and the workers leave scrap building materials, nails, and screws everywhere. My wife collected a coffee cup full of nails and screws just in front of our apartment. One can only imagine how many flat tires those nails might have caused. We've also had problems with ants on many occasions even though we do everything we can not to leave any food open. When one tenant was evicted, they just tossed everything out into the parking lot blocking about 5 parking spaces where parking was already at a premium, and leaving lots of broken glass. Take our advice and look elsewhere.

I recently moved in here and I noticed similar problems. The dishwasher is new but they didnt hook it up. Maintence left paint and glue all over the rugs. I am purchasing some area rugs to cover the stains.
Vanity area was pretty dirty and the drawers were stratched. I brought some shelf liners for everything and it covers things up nicely. I found that coverings things works and this prevents further damage. And remember in the lease they charge you for damages so report everything and then proceed to cover the problems so you dont further them while your living here.
If you can manage the repairs yourself it saves you a lot of headache. Turn your hot water heaters up when you move in and vacume the patio.
Of course pick up the construction crap before you vacume. Also give your storage space a good cleaning with a wet/dry vac and that should get rid of the bugs. Also dump some bleach in your storage space and leave it there overnight to kill the spiders. I enjoy the lake very much but you have to expect there to be poop.
This is especially true if people fail to pick up after their animals.
Staff definately hates this place and it shows. Honestly, take it from someone who has had slumlord apartments!
This is not the worst place to live. Sometimes you gotta do a little work to make things nice or at least bearable. Take care of the problems when you move in so they dont drive you nutz.

I have to agree with just about everything that was said in each response. I moved in back in October and I am doing a count down until my lease is up. There is a real problem with the whole bait and switch issue. I was lied to by mgmt from the start! When I asked if there were patial paid utilities I was told that there were and the website even said that. When I read my lease upon moving in and brought all of that to their attention, their response to that was that we stopped doing partial paid utilities in April 07 and that they don't run their web site so what is on that is out of their control. The first week that I moved in, maintenance was there 4 out of 5 days that week! For the apartment to have been remodeled, I really couldn't tell. Let's talk cabinets shall we - the kitchen cabinets are horrible! They don't close, they are cracking and the base boards look like a child threw some spaghetti at them and called it a day. The ones in the bathroom are off track and cracked as well. There is paint on the floor and the carpet, on the thermostat controller, on the door knobs, and the door to the storage area has a piece of tape over a hole and that has been completely painted as well! There are places on the floor where it is sinking, the floor is coming away from the wall, the doors don't close, the shower was filthy upon move in & every move that I make while in the shower it sounds like I weigh a ton, and I constantly have water problems! The water problems don't include the monthly problems that the complex has where everyone is without water starting at 8 a.m. on a particular day. And now that I am nearing the end of my lease, those clowns in the office want to send me a letter in the mail lettng me know that I need to give a notice 90 days before the termnation of the lease when a 60 day notice is requested/required. Then I got another letter 60 days before the termination of the lease telling me that since I did not submit the 60 notice in time that I was going to be placed on month to month terms charging me an extra $50 per month. Their math is totally off and they are trying to screw any and everyone out of money any possible way that they can.

Glad I read the reviews before making a decision to move into this complex. Had read other reviews about SunLake that were negative...............these help me draw the final conclusion of "No way, Jose."
