I recently moved to the Huntsville area, and spent a good deal of time and research looking for a nice place. I cam across The Vintage because of its location and ammenities. Lets go through they're ammenities and 'advantages' shall we'
1. Close proximity to Research Park, minutes from anywhere.
Sure, they are technically 5 mins from Research Park and University Dr, but do they mention the intersection they are at' That intersection i found out was INFAMOUS in Huntsville for having HORRID traffic and up to 45 min delays! Good luck getting out of the community.
2. Free Cable.
Wow, sounds great... I figured it would save me $50 a month. No. Yes, you get 51 channels including HBO, BUT God forbid you want to make any changes! I wanted to make ONE SIMPLE change by adding a channel... After a HOURS on the phone with many people, here is the deal. To make ANY changes, you will need to fork over $150 for a new dish and antennae, min of $150 for other parts and labor. You see, the complex uses Dish Network ONLY, AND it has a single contractor to do all the work, so you MUST go through him for changes and repairs. He charges RIDICULOUS amounts. Oh, and did I mention he lives in JACKSONVILLE, FL! Yep, that's right, you have to make long distances calls and then wait a couple WEEKS for services. Oh, and "so he gets paid for installation" you MUST take a minium of America's Top 100 channel choice, which is $60 a month after tax.
3. Friendly Staff.
NO WAY. Sure, they act nice, but they LIE. Bold face lies to get your money. After all the nightmares I went through, the DAY AFTER I signed my lease, i asked them to please allow me to turn it over. A flat out NO. You signed a lease, its a legal binding document. I explained the situations the problems etc. I asked if they had the usual 14-day or 3-day satisifaction guarantee that 95% of the places in town have that let you out of a lease, the all said no, with BIG attitude. After MUCH MUCH MUCH complaing to corporate and management, the allowed me to overturn my lease a few days later. "Oh, and we must charge you rent." Blew me away, they said I had to pay rent from the day I signed my lease till then, even though I had never stepped foot in the apt. (note, after I found a new place, my current lease agent contacted The Vintage for verifaction... The Vintage, plainly stated, "oh yes, we do have a 14-day policy"..... UNBELIEVABLE. I asked for a letter that confirms my lease ended, THe Vintage refused, saying it wasn't necessary. WHO ARE THEY TO DECIDE THAT. Again, after much hassle, I received the letter.
4. Great Community.
Great, if you consider due to location, there is no cell phone reception. THe much talked about alarm ssytem, requires a landline phone line, soemthing I haven't had in years. Parking is a risk in and of itself, unless you have an SUV or great brakes, the hills are crazy. I spoke with a neighbor who told me about a car that actually slipped down a hill.
All in all, DO NOT GO HERE, Yes, they do have THE best kitchen I have seen for a one bedroom in this area and they do include a washer and dryer. But the troubles that come along with it are NOT warranted nor tolerable. I have gone with another MUCH more pleasable area, 200 sqft larger, and cheaper. With a MUCH more refined quality.
