Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007

Upon first moving into Waterford Square in 2006, we were pleasantly surprised by the huge apartment, the diversity of our neighbors, the well maintained grounds, and the friendly, quiet neighborhood. I felt safe enough to walk around the complex by myself, and bragged to everyone about the wonderful complex we had moved to. The proximity to EVERYTHING, (restaurants, Von Braun Center, Joe Davis Stadium, shopping and Ditto Landing) is outstanding. The only things that were disappointing to me were that there is no insulation around the windows, no screen door on either the front of the back entrance to allow us to have a door open on a beautiful day, and the small kitchen. I did like that we would get a monthly newsletter on our front door, informing us of community events and little tidbits, and the fact that everyone you saw smiled and waved at you.
Here we are now, in the summer of 2007, and I've heard that there has been quite a turnover in not only the office staff, but the maintenance crew. We called about a month ago on a maintenance problem, and it is still to be resolved. It seems like since this turnover, the few maintenance problems we had are taking longer to be fixed, and it also seems that pest control does NOT come around as often. Also, the monthly newsletters have stopped. Another odd thing is that, instead of informing each tenant with a letter in their mailbox or left on the front door, we were informed of a rash of car break-ins by a letter posted on the bulletin board by the mailbox area. The car break-ins seem to have coincided with the end of school and the arrival of some 'strange people' that have been walking around the community since May.
Also, it seems management is becoming less stringent with their standards and qualifications of prospective & newer tenants. One the street I live on, there are new tenants who seem to have a 'drive thru' service on the weekends, with their sometimes already drunken 'wanna-be thug' friends parking all over the street, some only staying long enough to go into the apartment for 10-20 minutes. The people who visit this specific apartment stand around outside on the lawn or in the street, between 10:30pm - 12:00am, constantly yelling, screaming, cursing and carrying on like noone else lives here, thereby ruining the nice quiet atmosphere we had grown to love.
Since hearing of the break-ins, and also seeing some of the seedy people walking around the complex lately, I no longer feel safe enough to walk by myself around the grounds. Management says they are aware of these situations and are taking care of them, but I have not yet seen anything to make me confident of their statement.
It's a real shame that the community has changed so much in such a short time. I truly hope the new staff can turn things around and get WS back to what it was like when we first moved in, because it really was a great place. Without some necessary changes, I am not sure we will renew our lease when the time comes. In the recommend to a friend section, there should be a third choice, that being 'unsure', because as things stand now, that is how I feel.
