Colonial Grand Madison - Not so great

We have been living at the Colonial Grand at Madison for about 8 months now. The curb appeal is great, but below the surface, what you get is far from what you pay for. The communication with office staff leaves plenty to be desired. THough friendly, they are not at all organized and virtually impossible to get a hold of. Getting a return phone call has proven impossible. If you want something done you have to catch them at the office - period. It almost appears that they do not answer the phones when in the office.
If you want service, don't plan on getting it without raising your voice. Simple things such as asking why they took down the umbrellas at the pool. We called and asked repeatedly - never got a responce. Called three times last month to see exactly what they wanted me to do sice we are moving out. Never got a return phone call - had to go there in person.
If packages come to the office due to being too large for the small bixes from the post office or UPS, they have a policy that you have to come and check - they won't notify you. Not what I would expect from a $1900.00 per month rent (I am on a month to month due to relocation - its normally a bit less).
Resurfacing of the parking lots was recently done. People were given exactly one days notice, and the distribution of the notices were only to those areas being resurfaced the next day. Parking is far from adequate which blows my mind that the place has three stars. If you happen to be parked in a separate area from where they were surfacing or on vacation or out on business, they towed your car. We got lucky as we just returned home the night they distributed the notice. If you arrive after 5:00PM, forget about parking in front of your unit as the lot is jam packed.
The units themselves are OK, but unbelievably dark if you get a downstairs unit. Almost no natural light at all. We nicknamed our condo, "The Dungeon". Funny, but kind of depressing as we just commonly say "meet you back at the dungeon" instaed of "meet you at home".
As far as safety - questionable. I guess I do feel as safe as anywhere else walking around, but my car was just recently broken into and a couple of items stolen from inside it in the parking lot. I was honestly not suprised. You would think I would feel more violated, but I am not. Probably because we are leaving in about 10 day. I can't wait to move.

I agree...Parking is hideous. I especially like the people who park two cars (although they only drive one...the other is permanently parked and never moved) in front of the building so the others who live there get to walk a far distance if they show up after 5 in the evening. Neighbors in my building are not respectful of others. I can't wait to move.

I am sorry to hear this. I have researched this complex and it is very appealing to me and my family. We loved the school district, appearance, and location. Is it really that bad? If so, do you have any other complexes to recommend?
