DON'T LIVE IN MOUNTAIN VIEW!

I'm sorry for the long post, but I had several major problems with Mountain View:

Problem #1: I needed a place to live for a little less than 3 monthes (the second part of May through the first part of August). When I signed the lease, I noticed that it was written that I was renting the apartment for 4 monthes. When I questioned this, I was told that they had to write it that way since I would be there for part of May and part of August, but they assured me that I would only be charged for 3 monthes. I paid rent for the entire summer upfront(& at that time, they told me I only owed 3 monthes even though they knew I was paying in full), so I really didn't think anything else about it. However, a month or so after I moved out, I received a letter from Mountain View stating that I owed them another month of rent, which I ended up having to pay.

Problem #2: When I entered my apartment for the first time, it reeked of cigarette smoke even though I had requested a non-smoking apartment. I immediately notified Mountain View about this, and they rudely told me that it was impossible because the lady who lived in there before me didn't smoke. However, they did come into my apartment at my request and agreed that it did in fact smell like smoke, so they moved me to another apartment within a few days.

Problem #3: This isn't actually Mountain View's fault, but my car got broken into while I was living there. I was parked directly under a light right by the entrance to my building, but someone busted out one of my windows and stole my cd player. Several other cars were broken into that same night, as well. I think the police officer told me 12 cars, but that might not be accurate because I can't really remember. The police officer also said that he gets reports of a lot of cars being broken into at Mountain View.

Problem #4: When I moved out, I left my forwarding address with Mountain View, but never received any mail forwarded from there. This didn't surprise me because I was only there for a few monthes, and only got junk mail while I was there. However, I went to a new doctor while I lived in Mountain View, and had to put my address on the new patient information forms. I did not discover this until a year after I moved out, but the doctor (who was still listed on my insurance company's website as a covered doctor at the time of my appointment) had just started being billed under a different doctor and was no longer covered by my insurance. Since my insurance refused to cover the appointment, the doctor billed me at my Mountain View address. However, by that time, I had already moved to another state and since my insurance company's website said my doctor was covered, I had no idea I owed her any money. The doctor continued to bill me every month for an entire year at the Mountain View address, but Mountain View never forwarded any of the bills to my new address (which they definitely had since they mailed me a letter saying I owed them an additional month of rent). This whole ordeal resulted in an unpaid debt being placed on my credit history.

Mountain View is a cheap place to live, but they ended up costing me a couple thousand dollars with the extra month's rent, my replacement car window, and a replacement car stereo. They also caused me tons of hassle and headache and a bad credit score. There are so many nicer apartments in Madison & Huntsville for about the same price...do yourself a favor & don't live in Mountain View.

I think you have the responsibility of Mountain View's role in "forwarding" your mail totally wrong. Only the USPS is a valid means of forwarding mail. Did you officically make a change of address with the USPS to have your mail forwarded? If not, you have no reason to blame Mountain View for your doctor bills, "hassels and headaches", and your credit history. IF you had forwarded your mail appropriately, you would have been informed about things. I can only assume you didn't according to what you wrote. You only have yourself to blame. The staff at Mountain View bends over backwards to help the residents but do you really expect them to be a postal service also? THe ataff even moved you to another apartment for the smell of smoke in the first apartment. Not every complex would have done that. I am sorry but you are just whining. I don't know how old you are but you need to get real and more mature. You complained about the B&E on your car. It can happen at any complex, anywhere. Thieves don't care how much you pay for rent. They just want a car to break into. Also, regarding your rating on the maintenance, the maintenance staff at the complex are very helpful and prompt. The grounds are kept very well. During the time that you lived here, I beleive that the grounds were seeded and the office sent notices explaining why the graas was not being cut as often. Perhaps you didn't read your notices either. I sure hope you find the perfect apartment complex. It sounds like you are unrealistic about what you expect from a complex. They aren't babysitters. When you do find that perfect complex, don't expect to find caring staff....you just might find superficial, mediocre staff who could care less about who you are. I have been here for over 4 years and plan on being here at leat another year, perhaps two. The reason I stay? Number one is the staff, the beauty of the property and basically, I appreciate the good things about living here. It's a shame that you had to rate the property so poorly for your own lack of knowledge/maturity. Best of luck to you.....

Sterling Ridge is an apartment complex I am considering moving into. Reading these reviews has me questioning a few things I was told to include the length of leases offered. I also have a few concerns regarding car break-ins and having to deal with noisy neighbors and a lack of prompt response from office staff/management. I do however, know how to express myself and hope I never have to use that skill if I choose Sterling Ridge Apartments. I guess I could sum it up this way.....if someone is a large enough problem, there is always the option of calling the local police department, talking to the office manager and then to HQ if the problem is not resolvable. I get good vibes about Sterling Ridge and hope I am not proven wrong.
