Before signing the lease be aware of what they will make you pay (a S#*' ton of money) if you break the lease. I moved to Huntsville for a job, but the job didn't work out. We had to move after being there for 3 months but we signed a 15 month lease. You have to give two months notice as well as pay a months rent as a fee for breaking the lease. To top it off, if you are getting a discount for signing the longer lease (like we did) you have to pay that back as well. So esssentially to get out of Weston Ranch apartments we had to pay $2520 plus whatever they decide to charge us for cleaning carpets, paint etc. And don't expect to get any sympathy or any sort of help from the people that work there. Don't get me wrong, they will be nice to your face but don't expect them to be sympathetic of your situation - they only care about their money. Typically if you have a complaint you get a smile and assurance that something will be done, but then nothing gets done. It would have been an OK place to live if I didn't feel like I totally got screwed. You don't really have to pay a deposit but I'm scared of what they are going to charge me for cleaning the place, not that it was dirty after being there for 3 months but it is left up to them to decide.
BTW... Sinks did stink, gates never worked (they were a pain anyway when they did work), could hear your neighbors, doors slamed shut, but those are small issues compared to the royal screwing I recieved.

You're a moron. If you sign a lease, it's not the apartment complex's problem if you break it. You agreed to those terms when you signed it. If you didn't like it, you shouldn't have signed it.

I truly believe name-calling is unnecessary regardless of the circumstance. I empathize with the former tenant. How unfortunate! I signed a lease with similar (I believe fairly standard) provisions but made sure the addendum stated I would give a 30-day notice & not have to repay the concession. Everyone signs a lease in good faith. You never know what the next day/week/month might bring. At the lease signing, I had no idea I would face a layoff 2 months later, especially after relocating. I'd been with the company over 10 yrs. The 'nice' staff let me know it was nothing personal. It was about the money. I understand business is business; it's not human or humane. Thank God for the addendum...saved me a lot of money. Companies can really stick it to you.
