First, we found the place to be overrun by ants when we moved in and we gave up asking them to take care of the problem. Figured we would just have to endure for 5 months. Now we find out payments will continue just like the ants beyond the agreed to 5 months. We moved here from another complex because they agreed to let us have a nonstandard 5 month lease (at a premium price), allowing just the time for our house to be built. As the lease has a clause for 60 day notice prior to vacating, at about 70 days prior I went in and asked what I needed to do. They told me that they knew we were renting just until our house was completed and we didn't need to do give notice, it was understood when we came. When I stopped back a month later to tell them the date we expected to move out, they asked if I had given the proper written 60 days notice. Whether this was just a misunderstanding or a intentional deceptive practice, they insist on holding us to this 60 days, which means we will be paying a mortgage and rent both for 6 weeks. This management style makes me bet we never see our deposit back either. Also, regarding question #1 below, they have let an unsightly semi-trailer park for the past couple months across the parking lot outside our apartment, putting spaces for residents cars at a premium.
