Very cool place but...

246 Lofts is a very cool set of lofts in downtown Montgomery. Overall- I have enjoyed living here but there are some definite negatives.
LOCATION: The location is great- right across the street from the Montgomery Brew Pub, two blocks from the Biscuits baseball stadium and just a couple blocks from the Waterfront Park. It is about four blocks from the Renaissance which has a restaurant and a bar. There are a couple restaurants in the area too, although most close down after normal business hours. Downtown Montgomery really only has business and government so at night and the weekend it is really really quiet/dead. This is both good and bad- no crime but also limited eating/grocery/gas options. It is two miles from Maxwell AFB which is also very convenient.
LOFTS: These are some really cool lofts. I have been in most of them and they are all different and each has its own unique style and character. This was an old factory or something and the original brick, beams and floor-boards remain which makes it really interesting. There are some strange quirks- like my one closet door opens inwards which effectively cuts my storage space in half.
STORAGE: I don't have a huge amount of stuff, but the one storage closet definitely isn't enough. My junk jammed in there and is a real pain to try and find anything. I have a road and mountain bike and there really isn't any where to store them. I have them in my bedroom which isn't all that bad, but it would be nice if there was a little more space. I do have a closet in my bedroom which is very strangely shaped, but it fits everything.
PARKING: Indoor garage which is awesome. It is a little tight, but everyone is careful and there hasn't been any problems. There is only room for one spot per person but after business hours there is parking all over the place because everyone clears out of downtown.
NOISE: When I first got here, there wasn't anyone above me which was great. Someone has recently moved in and I have come to realize that the insulation isn't that great. The upstairs wood floors are cool, but they are very loud for the downstairs people! I can occasionally hear the people upstairs and sometimes hear talking in the side lofts if they are loud. It is mostly the walking. The other, bigger noise complaint is the train maintenance yard. It is about half a mile away a they blow their unbelievably loud train horns at all hours of the day and night. I figured I would get used to it, but I haven't. I eventually bought one of those white-noise machines which has really helped with the trains but beware- those train whistles aren't messing around!
MAINTENANCE: The building recently switched to a new management company and they seem pretty good so far. I had an A/C issue and they had it fixed the next day.
PRICE: These are pricey compared to what you can get elsewhere in Montgomery. The location and the coolness-factor help to make up for the price but for the money you can get a much larger and more quiet place.
