RENTERS BEWARE!!!!!!!

I have lived in several apartment complexes in my life. I came to Barrington Place because I was told they strive to be the best. I was rushed through my lease without be able to read it and was told that if I took time to read it then I would have to wait until the next day to move in because the leasing agent was getting off work in 15 minutes. So I signed everything and went to my walk-through. Let me just tell you that the model they show is way better then the actual unit I had been rented. Don't get me wrong the amenities are very nice, but if you have any kind of a problem you are put on the back burner.
We moved in and everything was great for about 3 months, then the problems began. We have had mice since before christmas and when we called the front office all they did was send someone to lay down sticky traps which didn't work at all. So we have had mice droppings all over our floors, in our garage, its disgusting!
Then the ants and ticks began. First we were told it was because of all the rain, then because they were building next door, then it was that it's "insect season". So for the past 5 months we have had beautiful red ant traps all over our walls, courtesy of terminix.
Our intrusion alarm had a malfunction and nobody would come to fix it. We had to find the phone number to the company who installs them and they had to walk us through disconnecting it. So we haven't had an alarm for months. Also when our toilet broke (in the only bathroom) they couldn't fix it and had to get a new toilet, so for several hours, we didn't have a toilet. The maintenance techs and groundskeepers are very friendly though, and they seem to try their best.
The gates are a false sense of security because they are rarely closed - and if you want to get in, then you can just walk through the gates or follow someone if by chance they are closed. Some of the cars have been broken into while we have lived here and cds and cd players stolen.
Make sure before you sign here that you aware of the lease. It doesn't end exactly a year after you movein. It continues through the end of that month. So if you move in the middle of the month, they charge you a prorated amount, but when you go to move out, when your last month should be prorated as well, then you are expected to pay the full amount. If you fight them on it, then your deposit is forfeited.
Before you move out they give you a notice on your door that explains the charges if things aren't as they were when you movein. In addition to losing your deposit they charge you for cleaning and repairs - if the carpet has to be patched or replaced then you have to pay the full cost of it. It's absolutely ludicrous.
I would NEVER recommend signing a lease here, not even to my worst enemy.
