Save time and money...do not rent here!

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2004

We only had two days to find a place in Montgomery since we were moving from another state and had found that The Paddock Club looked nice and had a great deal at the time. Little did we know that they were desperate for renters, hence the good deal. We were told that we could not move in the apartment on the day that we wanted due to the fact that "new" carpet was being put in. We moved in to an apartment that was dirty and had OLD carpet that had been attempted to be cleaned with bugs everywhere. I noted EVERYTHING on our move in sheet and waited for maintenance to come and fix what was wrong... and I waited, and I waited. After calling the office numerous times maintenace FINALLY came out, but did little to fix what was listed on our move in sheet.

While living there the noise was horrible. I now know exactly what my neighbors are doing illegally and what sort of language they use to yell at each other with. The courtesy officer is a joke. She spends more time running after her own son who gets into everything and her son can be mean as snot to the other kids in the complex. Not only did we have to hear our neighbors, but we had to share in their stupidity. I was pregnant and on bed rest while our downstairs apartment was flooded by our upstairs neighbors and had to move every piece of furniture out of our bedroom (including clothes) to keep from ruining with no help from the complex. After much complaining over a weeks time, and dealing with the smell of soured carpet while sleeping on the floor in the living room, the area manager, Susan, was SOOOOOO nice (I am being sarcastic) and ordered new carpet. This only had more problems that were never fixed as well. They never came back to paint the walls and the ceiling that had water damage due to the flood from the upstairs apartment. (yes, we paid over $800 a month for an apartment that looked like crap, breaking the lease was not an option at over $3,000) The closets never operated correctly since the flood and I could only use half of my closet because the bar kept ripping out of the wall due to the damaged wall from the water. I will say that we were not charged for rent for a week, they really put themselves out as for compensation on that one, not. We had more ants than we ever knew what to do with. I finally bought my own spray because I knew for sure that I would be there to spray for them... the office never sent anyone out to take care of that little problem even if we did call every week. Parking was a nightmare.. again being pregnant you would think people would be sympathetic, wrong. We were also never told that we had to pay a water bill. We did not know of this fact until we received a delinquent notice from the water supplier. When I called the office about this it was as if I should have known better than to call them on something so stupid as not knowing that I had to pay my water. (what was I thinking') The weight room was never operating properly. The equiptment was damaged, tv's were stolen, constant flooding and the carpet was never replace so you could only imagine how horrible it smelled. The tanning bed never worked as did the hot tub. The pool was overrun by children who did NOT live at Paddock Club and was often shut down during the summer due to uncleanliness. Also upon moving in our blinds were warped from the sun and one was broken in another bedroom. We had called numerous times regarding this issue. Our bedroom blind was so warped from the sun that you could see in, day or night. We offered to go buy new blinds and Paddock Club could just reimburse us or take the ammount off of our rent, but that was not an option. After weeks we finally found out from one of the maintenance men that everyone (Home Depot, Lowe's) in town would not give The Paddock Club an account to purchase items such as these because of nonpayment. We finally got ONE blind in our bedroom, but the other bedroom blind was never replaced.

A few months prior to our lease finally being up we received a notice that we had to give a 60 day notice of cancellation or renewal. Due to my husband's job we move ALOT(13 times in 9 yrs) and we had NEVER had to give a 60 day notice... ever. We were told that it was MidAmerica's policy and that was that. We were also told that we had to clean our carpets prior to vacating the apartment. It was NOT in our lease that the carpets had to be cleaned, so we had agreed that we just needed to vacuum the carpets. At this point, Kim, the property manager, asked me if I had ever been happy there and I looked her square in the eye and said, "No." If she didn't get the impression that I was not happy, then she was not paying attention.

After cleaning the apartment for over four hours to make sure everything was completed as was asked of us prior to moving we were happy to finally leave the dump we had sadly called home for over a year and a half. We never once were asked to set up a time to do a final walk through with management, but did recieve a bill for over $300 for damages. The majority of the "damage" was due to not cleaning the bathrooms and not vacuuming the carpet''''' Yes, I did clean the bathrooms... on my hands and knees thank you. The carpets were vacuumed with a ShopVak and did not leave the sweet little lines in the carpet like conventional vacuum cleaners do. Shame on me for wanting a vacuum cleaner that didn't break every six months because I use it so much! When I called to dispute this I was firmly told that since I was not there to do the final walk through that is was "assumed" (do not assume= "ass" out of "u" and "me") that I did not wish to do a walk through. So basically it was their word against ours.

Everyone that we had ever met in the complex hated living there and were well aware of the unprofessionalism in the office no matter who was the manager. If you are reading this I strongly suggest that you NEVER move to Paddock Club. They are over priced and very, very unprofessional.
