I get the feeling from reading the other reviews that the office staff is writing them; with the exception of one. Since we only dealt with the office staff a few times while living there, they are not the primary complaint. We lived there for 6 months and while there, the safety issues we encountered were a shooting at the building across from us, 4 break-ins, numerous vehicle break-ins, and vandalism. We were in one of the buildings that was targeted for break-ins and the office staff was not willing to do anything to secure how intruders were getting into the apartments. In fact, I would have to say they were downright indifferent. I felt VERY uncomfortable being there by myself and coming home to the apartment during the day or at night. The apartments also share a common attic space, so technically, someone could break-in to an empty unit and travel through the attic and get into each apartment in the building, not to mention if one of your neighbors is a smoker, your apartment will smell like smoke. We had a neighbor who regularly made food that smelled disgusting. The walls are paper thin and you WILL know intimate details of your neighbors, whether you want to or not. :O)
Also...the heater in the apartments is wired with the hot water heater, so in the winter, you must turn off your heater BEFORE taking a shower. Otherwise, you will get into your shower and the heater will kick on and you will have ice cold water. Since they do not disclose this upon moving in, you will be left to figure that one out the hard way.
We had a year lease and after 6 months, we had enough. When we asked out of our lease, they made us pay dearly, but it was worth the money to not fear for my safety anymore.
I hope you find this review more helpful, as it is more honest than some of the others.

That's absolutely ridiculous! I lived alone at NorthBrook for awhile before getting married and felt very safe. I've never had any problems with vandalism or robbery. Also, my walls seem to be much more well insulated than the last place I lived in Birmingham. When I lived in Birmingham, I could hear my neighbors talking, singing, etc. all the time. Here it is very quiet. If your neighbors were being noisy enough that they bothered you, they must have been yelling for you to hear them. You could have made a noise complaint.

FINALLY, someone agrees with me about the office staff attitude. They really don't seem to care about any complaints they hear. Very sad since it COULD be a nice property to live in...provided the security is beefed up a bit.

You may be right! It is my understanding it may depend on what part of the complex you live. We lived in the townhomes, but I have heard some better reviews from the people who live elsewhere in the complex. I have no reason to make this up and I could hear my neighbors just talking to each other and when they walked up and down the stairs, it sounded like they were in my apartment. The break-ins were very scary and the lack of response from the office and the way they were getting in was the biggest issue. We even worked closely with the police department on those and the comlex was a target for a while for vehicle vandalism and theft. I am happy to hear you have not experienced any problems with those issues...I would not wish that on anyone. But, whether it sounds ridiculous to you because you have not experienced the same or not...the truth is that these things really did happen. I didn't write the complex management or ownership was at fault for the break-ins, but I did feel it necessary to move because they took an "it's your problem, not ours" attitude about it. Keep in mind also that we lived there almost 2 years ago and management may have changed.

Hey everyone! I actually do work here in the office and I hate hearing these things. I am so sorry that you had a bad experience. I worked here during the few break ins we had and our maintenance crew did come out to the apartments and installed extra locks and pin locks on sliding doors and windows. As for the guy that did the break-ins our NorthBrook Staff literally caught the guy and gave him to the police. This was 1.5 years. Again we are sorry and hope to make our current and future tenants very happy!
