This was my complaint to the Better Business Bureau:

Complaint Description:
Highland Lakes and Woodruffe owes me $390 for having moved out early from Highland Lakes apartments by 15 days. I formerly lived at at Highland Lakes Apartments in Prattville, AL. I accidently paid twice for the month of June and one of the Apartment attendants said that the extra June payment will apply toward July. She also said that if I plan on leaving the complex on July 15, I'll be refunded $390 -- half of the $780 I paid for entire month since I'm moving out of my apartment due to a military move to Colorado Springs. On July 15, I checked out of my apartment with another attendant. She also said the same and wrote a statement detailing that I was checked out and due a refund of half my July rent. Since then, I've called at least 30 times -- 5 times actually reaching a person and the others only being returned a phone call only once. After being promised this refund check 4x, I called at the end of August and one of the attendants said that it was in the mail. I called around September 2 and I was again told that it was enroute. I called again Sept 8 and the attendant, mentioned that it wasn't mailed and they were awaiting a DHL shipment of other refund checks to pass out from the main complex office. It is now 2 months later and I've been promised this check 6 times, both on paper and verbal conversation. I believe that they're discriminating against me because I'm military and I'm calling in from out of town. I'm tired of being lied to. When I try calling their officer number, I usually get their answering machine and I've only received one returned phone call. I need resolution and I need it now as I faithfully paid rent to Highland Lakes and Woodruff for 36 months straight. I expect the same expediency to my refund as I've given to paying Woodruff and Highland Lakes.
