Yo!

Not worth it

Well my friend and I were looking at apartments at the end of Spring semester (2006) and since we had been to many parties at Point-o-View we had seen some of the rooms and thought they were nice and a good place to meet other students.

When my friend/roommate called asking for the price of a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom she was told $625. We both thought the price was pretty good so we went to the office and signed the lease, right after we had signed a couple came in and asked the manager how much rent was. It was actually $725. So we had just signed a lease and found it it was $100 more then we thought. We asked why we were told a different price when we called and the manager told us that she didn't know why but that rent was $725. We chose to stay because these were "luxury apartments".

This week (July 31-Aug 4) has been the most stressful and frustrating week I've had this summer. I had went to the office to ask if they could unlock the door so i could do a bug bomb (just in case there were bugs in the apartment) and the manager (not the same manager that was there when we signed our lease) said that our room was actually ready and that we could pick up our keys early. Saturday (Aug 5) was when we could pick up our keys. So my roommate and I got our money for the first month rent and picked up our keys. We got into our room and we got very upset....
There were many things that was just unacceptable (this was what I wrote to Pritchett-Moore, and I also gave a list of stuff that needed to be fix/replace and what was there when we got there so we wouldn't get fined for it when we move out)
We believe that the condition of the apartment should have been better considering the price of rent. The paint job seems rushed, sloppy, and unprofessional. It seems as if the apartment was not inspected properly before it was verified to be occupied. The microwave was not fully screwed in, the broken window in the living room, the paint bucket with the broken glass left on the porch, the bedroom closet missing the bars to hang clothes, the loose light fixture and fan, and the poor paint job are all things that should have been taken care of before giving the âokayâ for move in.

and something a little strange was when my roommate and i were walking through the apartment writing down things that were messed up or needed to be fixed, we checked the smoke alarm..i pushed the buttons to see if it worked and then the front bedroom and bathroom lights didn't turn on. the maintenance man fixed the power outage of the bed and bath by fixing the wires behind the smoke alarm...

My roommate and I went to the main office (Pritchett-Moore) to discuss the conditions of the room. From the very beginning of the conversation the man was talking down to us. He was talking to us as if we were 12 year olds. I was getting very offended because we're going to be paying $725 for the "luxury style" apartments they claim to be and it looking like a half ass job. He did not treat us with respect, and I bet if our parents would have talked to him he would have had a different tone, a different way he presented himself, and would have treated them with respect. When I told him that since the rent was so high that the apartment should be in a better condition he replied in a smart ass tone "do you want to get out of your lease'" Okay this was pushing me, and I really did not want to loose my temper, so I held my tounge on what I wanted to say.."Look here smart-ass we're paying for 'luxury apartments' and its not my fault you guys can't find people that know how to paint, so you're going to either fix the place up or lower the rent" but I didn't. After we left both of us were pissed off and I called up my mom and we(mom, my roommate, and myself) came to the conclusion that we had to find a better apartment. Most of the apartments around here have already been filled since Fall semester is coming up, but we managed to get lucky.

So to sum things up...
*the apartments are livable, but for price and them claiming to be "luxury style" its not worth it
*the man at the main office even said himself that the apartments were rushed because they had to do 80 units in a week...if you value your tenants you wouldn't allow sloppy work from maintenance
*college students aren't treated with respect
*bad painting crew
*Rude management (the main office)
